Jeep Liberty Oil Pan & Gasket Replacement 3.7 V6

If you're ever on the ground trying to get the oil pan off (assuming stock suspension) You can jack the car up in the front to get yourself under to loosen all the bolts, but you have to drop the car back down to get the pan off. You can get it off without issue if you spin it the right way to get it past that suspension arm without having to pull the oil pump and without putting any stress on it. Obviously, youll have to pull it anyways when you change the seal, just wanted to mention that. Just did this crap myself on the ground in a parking lot with a jack. Thank you for the tutorial though. Helped me a lot when i got stuck a couple times. Particularly with separating the seal from the pan. It decoupled from the engine block easy, but not from the pan. Your method was spot on.

While reinstalling the driver's side cylinder head, I dropped one of the small bolts... sure enough, when into the deepest part of the sump. Thanks to your video, I didn't do something stupid and lift the engine to get the pan off. Cheers!

that sir was one of the best explanations I have seen for the removal of this pan. other guys are taking the entire drive shaft apart. And like bucket man below, I was attempting to do it in my driveway. I just found out that a friend of mine has a full garage with a lift in his house. I'll be there this weekend with my pan gasket and o ring. Thanks for the excellent tutorial.

@@FixItPhillip so Phillip, want your advice. I am refurbishing my son’s 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 2WD, 3.7...I am doing mechanical first and then some cosmetics. So far, - Put in new spark plugs - Put in a new air filter and cleaned the Mass Air Flow - Drained engine oil, did a motor flush and refilled with Synthetic, High Mileage SAE 5W - 30 (it has 210,000 miles on it) and put a new oil filter on - Drained Transmission fluid, did a flush and then refilled fluid - Drained the rear differential, took off the cover, cleaned the old gasket off and cleaned the gears with Brake cleaner, put on new Permatec gasket and refilled What else? I plan to drain and replace the Power Steering fluid and brake fluids. What am I missing that would restore this old dog to the best operating performance? Thanks in advance.

I've seen allot of water pumps go out on those 3.7's, take a good look and make sure its not leaking, also check your serpentine belt. Besides that it sounds like your doing good

​@@lokiarsenault626Just unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the oil pan with a 2x4 and then place 2x4s under motor mounts. But remove the oil sensor. Which is located next to the oil filter.

Thanks, dude, I Couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the pan to drop. I know it was simple so I used a non marine interior panel.pry, bar, and went around it finally dropped My issue is oil pressure checking the pick up tube. Thanks again

I found a easy way to separate the oil pan and gasket - I heated up oil pan lip with a torch and the plastic softened up and separated

Very helpful. Unfortunately my job will not be nearly as easy, as I have a 4x4 model. have the pan and gasket removed, but unable to take it out as there is no room. Taking off my front differential today... Sure wish I had a lift. Here goes!

Thanks!! I have 2012 Liberty and the oil pan has some weird covering on the pan that is peeling off and looks like rust flaking off and now worried pan will rust out. But also I have heard you have to raise the engine to get pan off but now I can see you don’t.

@@FixItPhillip Philip, I have the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L. You have the best video so far. However, I can't get the plate behind the pan off, before the bell housing. It is hitting the cross member. I don't have enough room to reach a wrench in to one the 10mm pan bolts with it there. Can you refer me to a video to resolve this? i.e. lifting the engine correctly to get the space I need to remove the aluminum plate. I have looked and cant find anything. I don't want to screw it up.

Thanks man. I’ve got one leakage position at the edge of the pan where it meets it’s sitting area. It think the mechanic was trying to remove it so made an indent in that edge. Can I somehow squeeze them back together so they can aligned?

Nope. Didnt have to raise the engine or loosen motor mounts at all. Ive seen people do that though lol. Just separate the oil pan from the gasket. Once pan is hanging down, reach in and unbolt the pickup tube. Then the pickup tube, pan gasket and pan will come out together.

Not in a 2wd. If its 4x4 you have to either remove the front diff or let it hang down enough to get pan off

Some are very stuck, you may have to get a new pan worst case. Some type of knife or scraper may work if it isn't too stuck, or try tapping on the pan with a rubber mallet

My bad but I watched video twice , drove to my friends garage, put car on lift, attacked the job and realized after I split the gasket I couldn't get the pan out. @@FixItPhillip no you dont, just did this , cut oil pan with dremel small sqaure on belly part and corner towards passenger and you will see the bolts for the oil pickup tube and undo those and everything will drop and wiggle it down and towards the left and it will come out and go back in same way but with a new pan and gasket , i did it on a 08 grand Cherokee laredo 3.7

Dude if I were you I would poked a hole in the old pan to drain the oil out before removal since you stripped out the drain plug. Alot lighter and less chances of wearing 5 quarts of oil.

Yes this one is 2wd. The 4wd you have to get the front differential out of the way, then the rest applies. If i get a 4x4 in i will make a video for that one as well.
