everyone's been saying it but imma add my own two cents. the jam format shouldn't be used at the very least for finals in SS, Pipe, or BA. the old system allowed for each trick in each run to be analyzed and explained which is especially helpful for people who are just getting into snowboarding. this format makes it hard for the audience (and honestly everyone else probably) to know whats going on in the competition, where people stand and why. i understand the need for versatility but there is a need for scores to make the comps more suspenseful and intriguing to watch. there's definitely a way to combine the jam session with a scoring system. i saw a few comments with some really good suggestions but i have faith that x games will figure it out and improve the format next year.

I understand the need to try something new, but please don't bring this format back for next year. It gets rid of all the tension for a finals run and makes it just boring to watch cuz everyone is playing it so safe. Also, anyone else miss the money booter? Not sure why they got rid of it this year.

“Switch double backside rodeo switch tail grab” Me: It’s to bad he didn’t throw in a dictionary on the next jump. Seriously though, all the athletes this year @Xgames are incredibly impressive. As I’ve said in another comment, it would be great to have a clear way to see how runs compare score wise across the event, perhaps in this kind of timed format but do average score between all runs? I know Xgames is seeing everybodies response to this new format (mostly negative) but I’m certain they’ll do something that can bring us the best of both new and old. Can’t wait to see Xgames in the future! Edit: Quote from 9:54

@isaack7 4 жыл бұрын
I disagree. It takes away the possibility of judges over judging and doing silly things like giving a perfect score. It also puts a much heavier focus on the riders need to be versatile. Riders can no longer hide behind having 1 or 2 big tricks. It's crazy how many pros in the past would be whipping tripple corks on one specific access but then you learn they can't do a rodeo, or can only spin flat or only spin cork or only spin front side or etc. Etc.etc. slopestyle is about well rounded versatility and this format forces you to be more well rounded

This "jam" format is really bad for all the core competitions (SS, Pipe, BA). Two points: 1) Judging was already subjective enough the way things were before; this format completely removes the audience from understanding what is happening in the competition (and I would bet the riders too). 2) While I see that it is supposed to give us more riding in the event it also seems to incentivize less technical runs making it more boring to watch.

the jam and total impression format works well in slopestyle ( reason, if they fall or make a little error, they can still impress on their run and finish it instead of trying again on the next run , but not in big jump. if you fail there you have already failed. since its only one jump in a run, compared to slopestyle which has a lot of elements in each run. they can still use jam in big jump though, as long as there is scores! but please bring back the scores, live ranking? didnt work for me at all! agree with a lot of people here about that especially

it seems I'm the only one loving this format though. But it's definitely not working out correctly yet. How can Red not win this competition with so different, clean and technical runs? And how can Darcy jump from 8th to 1st (Darcys riding is awesome, but wasn't the best in this competition) Why is everyone hating this format? It brings back more style and different tricks. Competition is more about riding than rating again and 1620's are still awarded if they land it (this competition would have gone in a completely different direction if mark mcmorris had stomped his 1620 in his first run - everyone would have shown more technical tricks afterwards). How about going back using the system that the two best runs are counted together but the runs must be different - like in some big air competitions?
@calebkasprzyk7114
@calebkasprzyk7114 4 жыл бұрын
I'll join the general consensus: I hate the new format for the final. But this is how you fix it: keep this format for eliminations, but on the final, do it like best trick where each run gets a score and the best two scores are added together. Problem solved.

Had to watch this over again. Watched Darcy’s Gold Medal Run videos. Then forwarded to each of Red Gerard’s runs. Idk, I love Darcy, but he shouldn’t have gotten gold over Red. The only thing I can think of is that Red did a lot of his same rail tricks and I think only had 2 different tricks on the shark fin. But he landed all his runs? Idk I’m confused and disappointed. Don’t really care for this scoring system. Seemed like Red was consistently going bigger.
