If you are going to buy and drive a jeep renegade and never take it off-road don't buy the trail hawk. By the other trims and add 4x4 if you want, the the Trailhawk has some great features for off road, and while I think your review was a little over the top, some of those features make it less good on pavement than the other trims.

I purchased a Renegade Trailhawk for my wife four months ago and liked it so well that a bought one for myself. The only point that I can agree with you on is that It does not stay in 4X4 after you shut it down. This is the way it is designed and exactly what it is supposed to do. While in "auto" mode, it will go into all wheel drive the moment it senses any slippage of the front wheels. The transition is almost instant and very smooth! It functions the same way your cruise control functions - it resets when vehicle is turned off for safety reasons. Otherwise, you'd have dim-witted people driving around on dry pavement in 4X4 wearing out their gearbox and transaxle. Sad but true.As far as MPG, I have gotten over 33mpg when cruising 55-60 mph down the highway. In 3,500+ miles I have averaged about 26mpg and that is both off-road and highway combined. For a small suv, I think it is very quiet and smooth going down the road and the handling (including steering response) is nothing short of excellent! It sounds to me like you may have minimum air pressure in your tires, probably around 30-32 pounds. I keep mine set at around 40 pounds.As far as off road capabilities, this jeep really performs well with its tight turning radius and the way it is constantly checking and sending power to the wheels with the most traction. I've had vehicles with dedicated gear lockers that didn't perform as well in mud or sand.Trailering capabilities are awesome for a vehicle this size. I know it is only rated to pull a 2,000lb trailer, but I've pulled my 2,700lb travel trailer down the highway without any problems at all. It felt very stable and had plenty of take-off and cruising power. You can't appreciate the braking capabilities until you're pulling a heavy load and have a deer jump out in front of you when you're going 70mph down the highway. Yes, the brakes are awesome!To be fair, my only complaint is that the temperature control knobs are too close to where my leg rests and I am constantly changing the temperature accidentally.

I have a 2016 Renegade Limited with a 2.4 liter engine and I love it. I honestly, REALLY, REALLY LOVE IT........My first road trip was a day trip of 225 miles to Noahs Ark in Wisconsin Dells in August...I averaged 32/mpg in mostly country roads and thru small towns.I couldn't believe that I got such great mileage.My only issue is the trunk.It opens easy by pushing the button,but I wish it was a powered trunk.Everything else I truly love. This guy is hyper critical.He must drive a Ford Escape. LOL I love driving my RENEGADE .Its cute and tough...It is so much fun .It drives "so nice "in all kinds of weather and is very comfortable..I would buy another..

After owning one for 4 months now I respectfully disagree with just about every point said with the exception of the gas mileage. We use the rear buttons in such order. With key fob in pocket walk to rear door, press button to open. Grab gear/groceries, Close rear Door. press button on right to lock and engage alarm and proceed inside house. Purpose is to keep you from having to remove the fob from your pocket and stay hands free at all times. the same function as the buttons on the doors.

J P Thanks for your input. I'm really considering purchasing one soon. What is your opinion on acceleration? I've heard people say they were scared to merge onto the freeway with this car
@phatgyrlslim768 жыл бұрын
I bought this jeep 2 weeks ago in the Lattitude model, I love it. The acceleration and braking have been fine, and the gas mileage is improving with the amount of mile I drive. I have NO ISSUES with merging onto the freeway at all, I really love my roomy, semi loaded pretty silver baby. Don't let these gear headed individuals talk you out of a good thing. Go drive one... Go drive one a couple times.
@krakengaming47758 жыл бұрын
I agree completely, the acceleration is more than ample to merge onto the freeway safely and easily. 12k miles now on our trailhawk and avg 21.5 mpg. Something to keep in mind.

2016 Trailhawk I bought 4 months ago and my driving is both city/hwy roads and I've averaged 24.7 on normal driving conditions and on just hwy I was getting 27.5. I will say the only thing I hate about this car is that it only has a 12 gal tank, so I'm getting the same trip my 07 Tiburon GT got but I have to stop at the gas station more often bc it has 2 less gallons in the tank. It's a jeep, that two extra gallons is huge when your off road. I guess that is why they make jerry cans though.

had mine over a year and 47,000 miles on it now, I agree with nothing mentioned in this video. the only exception being the full time 4x4, but if I put in 4wd and dive home from work in snow why is it necessary for it to still be in 4wd 14hrs later when I return to work? my trailhawk averages over 29mpg and has its entire 47k miles.

I have owned my 2015 limited for almost 2 months now. I don't have 4wd, but I have driven it on 3 trips at 1100 miles a piece. yes it is a little noisy inside the cabin, but each trip only cost around 60.00 in gas. my main complaint is the icon next system keeps resetting to European units (Celsius and KM) at random, and the slight delay on take off from a stop. I love all of my perks, and most jeeps that are having trouble seem to be the Trailhawk models. oh and you forgot to mention the spider in the gas cap and the yeti on the back window. I wish there were more aftermarket mod parts available, but I am guessing they will come in the so I can personalize my Jeep!

I bought a 2016 Lattitude and I average 21mpg in the city and back and forth to work 30 mpg. Compared to my 2015 WRX, it does lack power. I bought it because I live in the "Snow Belt" south of Buffalo, NY and I needed the ground clearance in the winter. I agree with the trunk release....they could have done a much better job at its location. The ride is much better than my WRX , so I will be getting rid of my Subaru. :)

My 2016 Dawn of Justice Latitude gets great gas mileage. I agree they are not a quiet ride. My wife complains she can barely hear me on the phone while talking through the car when connected. Overall though I'm very happy with mine, but it's a different model then the one you tested out. My commute to work is 52 miles one way. Average 28mpg on highway. Thanks for your review.
@Trades468 жыл бұрын
Since you keep locking up the 4WD system, it probably explains the bad fuel economy. The default FWD-biased setting is obviously there to improve fuel economy (Jeep could use the Renegade to lower their CAFE number). The AUTO 4WD function is probably the ideal setup for daily use, and it probably makes the steering looser as well.
@ApexCadaver6 жыл бұрын
While I DO NOT OWN this vehicle, as a rental vehicle, they may have given you a Valet Key, which will not have a trunk release. Also, locking the vehicle with your door open, and the car honk at you, is a pretty awesome thing. Especially if your kid borrows it to go surfing, and forgets to close the door, after unloading his surfboard.
@MontysMotos8 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you're getting bad gas mileage and poor road manners because you keep locking it in 4WD on pavement. Leave it in the default position and it kicks in automatically if it senses wheel slip.
@TobyMichaelPortableTechReview8 жыл бұрын
Having owned one for almost a year the only thing I would agree with is the button location on the tailgate. It's too low and it's obnoxious. I can easily get 30 miles per gallon on the highway and a combined commute I get about 26. Every vehicle isn't going to appeal to every person.

I've been looking at these models online. So far, I kinda like them. My jeep has seen better days, and I'm slightly leaning toward getting a newer model Jeep. I have two questions? How tall are you? Is it easy to get in/out of for you? I am a 6ft tall very husky gentlemen myself, and was wondering how I'd fit in the Renegade series Jeeps? I'm currently recovering from an accident some other guy caused, while I was driving my 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I hurt my neck and back in the accident. Getting in and out is sometimes tough on my neck, but other than that its not too bad getting in an sitting/driving in. The Jeep was totaled out, and I put enough in to make her street worthy. But it'd take a lot more to get her back to her old glory.
@NewCarSpin8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Morton I'm 6' tall. Ingress and egress was okay. The seats were rather small and don't come up very high on the back. If you have neck or back problems, the ride quality might be the biggest turn off.

You need to try a different version, maybe a FWD w the 1.4 and 6 speed? A non TH may be more road friendly. My Renny has gotten 35 mph highway, but only 20 on my daily commute. There is a trunk release on the keyfob if you don't go for the keyless start (although you do have to modify the fob to access this feature) Have not noticed the steering issue you mentioned... maybe a TH issue due to different tires/suspension? Definitely not all things to all people, but I'm enjoying my 4x4 Latitude as a downsize from a Grand Caravan

Is a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand. You can live in the city and still go have fun in that Jeep, you can drive it in the beach, put a kayak on top and go fishing to places other small SUV can't go. I think you should get a Subaru Forester, it might fit your personality better. I understand is a little over price and the fuel tank should be bigger but for those who can't afford a Wrangler this is a good alternative.

After 25,000 miles, its not bad. The trunk release is a poor design, but honestly....you get used to it. I recommend any prospective buyer to get the yrailhawk and not a latitude or lesser. This car is good at introducing millenials to the brand by creating a vehicle to bridge the gap between a cars like civics to a larger jeep.

I’m really surprised at this review and am honestly wondering if there was something wrong with the car! I have driven my 2015 trail hawk all over the place and have found it fantastic on the highway, cruising at 90+ mph with zero issue. In the wind it fights with you but that is to be expected with the profile of it. I average around 27 mpg with mostly winding back roads and in town. I don’t think I’ve ever accidentally set the alarm off either, except for pushing the panic button by accident. But I guess we all have our preferences.

I have this as a rental right now and I hate it. The transmission lags, the engine sucks, and the blind spots are outrages. It's uncomfortable, and clunky. I miss my car greatly!! Also, for a four cylinder engine, with a 9 speed transmission is a bit much, it totally kills the acceleration. I can't wait to return it. I am a road driver, and I love horsepower and acceleration. So before you attack me, yes I understand this is not a sports car. I am accustomed to driving sports cars so and have no interest in off roading; so this vehicle is useless to me. You can disagree and many on here have already but, to me I can say I do not like this vehicle.
