Jeep TJ Project: Ep. 2 Rear Frame Repair Caps

We are back to working on the Jeep in today’s video repairing the rusted frame in the rear in front of the rear tires. This is a rust prone spot on these TJs and sadly mine fell victim. I ordered a set of frame caps off amazon and luckily they worked very well so if you run into this issue this is the fix!

I was a little annoyed I missed it when I was looking over the Jeep before I bought it haha but oh well

@@BrodyBuilt I feel the same. When I overpaid for my 2001 TJ, I didn't know about the frame rust issue. Luckily it is only in the rear and the worst of it is the two places you repair in the video. Dad just got a new welder so as soon as my wallet recovers from Covid, I will get these and spend the day with my pops cutting, welding and painting. Thanks for the confidence to tackle this myself instead of paying $$$$ to have a shop do it.

@@Stevanhale - we need to start a club or a support group or some shit because check this out: I *also* overpaid for my '01 TJ! I've already replaced the posi carrier in the Dana 44 rear end (ER trip for 6 stitches in the process) because of blown apart spider gears. I put a new left front U joint in, got a new windshield installed, replaced the HVAC controls, charged up the AC, replaced the throttle position sensor, and replaced the battery. I still need to put a complete exhaust on with O2 sensors and cats because I bought it from a kid in a state that doesn't have emissions testing. He cut them off. "Aww, shit - y'all got emissions up in Pittsburgh, don'tchall? Yep. The gas tank skid plate is rusted to shit (it's what cut my hand up when I was beating the new carrier into the axle housing), so that's gotta get replaced. Annnnnnnd, I need to weld some repair sections on the frame by the rear control arms. After all that, it should pass inspection. Yes, I paid too much. The saving grace is that the PO put in a new 4.0 crate engine about 6,000 miles ago. Living and learning. I'm going to buy a welder and fix it myself!
