Great job man! Just got mine fixed after a couple bonehead mistakes on my part. Only took about an hour minus my mistakes. 2011 Grand Cherokee Limited 72K 1. The two rubber bump stops at the inside,top of the glove box have torx screws inside them holding the tip edge of the glove box on. The other two side bump stops just plug in. 2. Removing the thin plastic, snap together air duct/tubing running from upper heater box to under the dash /glove box vent eases this repair greatly. Well worth the 2 minutes is takes to remove. 3.Don't be a bonehead like me. After replacing the broken gear and step motor i still wasn't getting air out my passenger side upper vent-just my lower. After a bout an hour of reviewing. resetting . recali-brating, my wife comes out to check on me , and after telling her what was going on, she rotates the dial under the passenger dash vent from closed to open. Enough said. Thanks again for the effort.

a just bought a commander and this gives me another idea of where to look. when i dropped the glovebox out a quadrant gear fell out. pulled the motor to clear debris and it's not as loud now. the blend doors is my problem also. thanks

Yes the new gears from Chrysler have to be timed unlike the old gears there is a timing mark on the actuator that the flat spot lines up with just turn on the HVAC controler and plug the actuator in and when the timing Mark's line up unplug it then install everything and plug it back in

GREAT VIDEO, I was considering filming my repair, but this video is perfect. Part was about $47, took about 30 minutes off and 30 minutes on, after watching this video and one other, works again!!! I bought a thumb ratchet from Sears for 9 bucks that saved a little time. Update 11/2017 85K and #3 solenoid went bad, hand a complete service done front brakes, and brake flush, plugs. Update 12/2017 87K the evap code came up, valve on top of the gas tank went bad, then had to take it back because they didn’t test it and it still leaked, they picked up the tab for the second time they had to pull the tank. So far repairs were about a 1/3 of buying an extended warranty that would’ve ran out at 75K. Update 10/2018 now the AC actuator on the drivers side is dead.

Seems like after I fixed my blend door I got a P0480 code on my 2012 GC. Wondering if anyone else had the same issue? Not sure if there is a wire back there i messed with.

First off… thank you, I really appreciate your walkthrough and it helped me get to the actuator…but I am still having an issue. My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee started blowing room temp air on the passenger side…driver side is fine TG, but I’m in Florida and it’s too hot to have AC issues! So I checked the blend door actuator and yes…the plastic gear broke off at the stop…and even though I didn’t need it I decided to replace both the actuator motor and the gear with new OEM parts just to be done with it for under $50. So I believe I installed the parts correctly, it can only go in one-way right? Before I installed it tho, I manually tested the door first and it moves freely…I also tested the motor and let it dangle while I powered on the car…I tried holdingon to it to see if some resistance would stop it like the gear stop is supposed to do right? Wrong…that motor did not feel like it was going to stop, or am I missing something here? Shouldn’t it stop with some resistance? Anyway…I really had no other alternative other than to just install and test it …and so I did just that and I’m pretty sure I installed it correctly…it can only go in one way right? I slipped on the gear to the inner gear 1st…with the large tooth to the large gap…then adjusted the actuator/stem to line up and screwed it down. I’m wondering if this is the point where I didn’t line it up correctly somehow. So after installing the actuator/gear and removing battery power for 30 min to recalibrate…I cranked it up and all I can hear from the actuator was a loud clicking noise like the plastic gear just sheared off the stop again! I don’t think I need to pull it off again to figure that out as its exactly the same…cold air on the driver and room temp on the passenger side. I’m puzzled as to why when I crank up the heat on the passenger side that works with no problem…it just doesn’t get cold when I crank it down! I don’t wanna give up yet my bruthas…any help would be appreciated….thx again

I tried fixing mine but from what I've researched the blend door has a gasket that melts and it makes the door stick shut. My gear was good and not broken and my actuator was working.

Jeff Bumpass yes there is one of the driver side it's behind the steering column I believe straight up if you get under where the pedals are. I saw pics and how to on that on some different forums.

My dealership replaced my entire leather dash because it was recalled under warranty for delaminating, after it was replaced my driver side stopped blowing cold air. Could they damaged actuator when replacing the entire dash? I have a feeling they will tell me they couldn't have broken it.

I'm not sure about newer models, but 2011 jeep grand cherokee has 3 Actuators. My car had one broken and it was the hidden one that was making annoying noise. It was difficult to tell which one was broken.

So my issue is driver's side only blows outside air temp air while passenger's side blows hot and cold depending on the setting. I assume this means that the driver's side actuator is bad and I shouldn't even need to check the passenger's side? 2011 GC overland

1. Must have tool: Harbor Freight, PITTSBURGH Ratcheting Right Angle Multi-Bit Screwdriver Set, 8 Piece $2.99 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable (under passenger seat for 20 mins.) to recalibrate the blend door actuator system.

Quick ?. The gear on the driver side broke and I removed actuator off distribution box. My question is; should the gear on the side of distribution box turn freely. On my 2011, it doesn’t. I didn’t know if that what caused my gear to break. Or is it electrically controlled on that side too like the actuator?

Gear on sides of distribution box should turn FREELY. Don't know the solution if they won't move, but that would possible break the big gear.

My actuator shaft arm on top doesn't want to turn freely for my to line it up. It's jammed tight and I don't want to force it and possibly break it. Do you have a solution for that?

It’s always wise to disconnect the battery, however if I remember right this cars battery is a pain in the ass and under the seat right?

1987fetus not sure but if you hear a hissing type noise there is a regulator that possibly went out. had to have the stealership fix it

STOPON6 what did they get you for that? pretty spendy im sure. I haven't heard a hissing sound yet just clicking sound once in a while. and it sounds like the noise is coming from the same area as this actuator in this video.

Ok I got the glove box off. But...how do you tell if the motor is bad and its not something controlling the motor? When i pulled the motor off, it does turn but only when my blower goes off. And I'm not sure why the blower shut off because I will leave the blower switch on high and it will intermittently shut off while the switch is on. And when the blower goes off, the motor turns. Changing the climate control switch doesn't seem to change direction of the motor.

Thank you for posting this video, it was very helpful. I have one additional problem, I wonder if anyone has come across. I removed the actuator, and the gear was broken. I have the replacement gear. When I put the new gear back in place, the mating top gear looks to be about 30 degrees out of alignment. Of course that top gear is on a spline that can only go in one way. The top gear can rotate freely to move the blend doors, but the rotation it needs will make that top gear hit the top housing. Looks like maybe the top gear has slipped relative to the blend doors. I can't see behind the vent ductwork to see if that is what happened.

I think I may have the same problem, except mine won’t rotate. So when I put the new gear on it ended up breaking, luckily I had ordered 2 so I have a spare. But I don’t want to break the second one. I’m not sure what to do now.

yes, there is a tapping noise if you sit in your trick for a min after you turn it off you hear it, just replaced mine and noise gone
