Jeep Wrangler Diesel Rubicon hood vent mod

In this video we take the non functioning hood vents and made them into functioning vents by cutting them. We also show where to cut the vents to not show damage when the hood is closed. We also cut into the heatshield to allow the heat in the engine bay to escape the engine bay easier.

Thanks for sharing! I was planning on doing this to my Rubicon 2016 Hard-Rock Edition. It has the AMW4x4 6.4L Hemi swap and can certainly use the extra heat removal.

Nice to see the mod from start to finish. How has the mod held up over time? A neat trick to check airflow is patters is a 'tuft test'. Essentially, you make an array of taped 3" yarn pieces to an area that you are investigating. If the yarn lays flat, that is laminar flow. If it dances all over the place, it is turbulent. The direction of the yarn is another sign. I would be very curious to see how that works with the mod.

It's been holding up great, over 10k miles put on the Wrangler since I did the mod with no issues. Dealership didn't even say anything about it. I'll shoot a video showing the string with air flow, haven't tried it before so don't know how the air is flowing.

It's been several months since your modification have you noticed any cooler temps?? Does it appear to be pulling hot air out of the engine bay or helping flow any better?? During the summer and fall I noticed my engine temps were 225 -230 just driving around town I could only imagine if I was on a long road uphill and I wouldn't doubt that I would experience some of the overheating issue and cut back on power.

I have not noticed any temperatures above 215, on the trails I can see hot air dumping out of the vents. As for highway speeds we did a video showing that air doesn't come out of the vents. The video if the tuff test.

I did this. You can actually see the heat rising out if the vents but I don't think it actually makes much of a difference.

On the trails or bumper to bumper traffic we see the heat as well. We did a tuff test to see how much air comes out on highway speeds and it sucked air into the engine bay.

Why didn’t you put the heat shield back up before you put the vents back in, and cut it out from the top down? Then the vents would have went right in and you wouldn’t have made such a mess of the heat shield.

So far so good, it's raining right now and shes been sitting outside for over a month and no issues. Took it to the dealership and the mechanics were liking it saying they think it would decrease engine bay temps. I haven't noticed "lower" temps. But even at 100 degrees out side she still stays at 204.

i did like the JK but hated that 3.8 motor. i love the lockers in the rubicon and after i started off roading with you guys i knew i needed lockers.

Question when you put the vents back was it lose felt like it had play?

No, it felt just like it did before I cut them. You don't trim the portion that holds it to the hood just below it.
