I also have an early build 97 that experienced the crank only no start fail. For me it was a bad PCM (bought a replacement from Wrangler Fix). It was a bit frustrating to diagnose but in the end it turned out to be a good experience. Did the fuel tank mod when I dropped the tank( your vid was a huge help), full tune-up, relays and wiring and so on. Now I feel pretty confident that I can handle any future issues myself.

Outstanding vid, I’ve changed two fuel pumps on my three jeeps. It was good to see you troubleshooting the jeep. I didn’t know about the crank shaft sensor or checking the fuel lines. In the past I just changed the fuel pump. Thanks for the info.

the issue on my 97 2.5L (kinda shaky running) was caused by the O2 upstream sensor - btw: the NTK 23506 is no more available, at least in Europe...

Wow Bernie. Why would they discontinue that I wonder? That is the go to sensor. I also replaced mine earlier. Thanks for watching!

Holy cow, Steve. That’s crazy. What are the chances of that hose blowing off, geez. Great sleuthing work. Glad to see JJ running again. And now we know how to replace the CPS. :) I sure hope I never get forced to have to replace TDSR’s pump in an urgent timeframe. It looks like that’s going to be a nightmare for me because of the rust.
@ForceBuilt Жыл бұрын
Yeah Ed! I am just proud it wasn't the computer. Everything seems.to be working better with the new CPS. It starts faster than ever and hasn't been quirky, yet lol.

Haha. I think I just saw a couple of those fuel pump filters on clearance on RockAuto last night for like 67 cents

Yeah, I paid way too much lol. Needed them right now and they GOT ME!

I had a similar issue but different root cause. Mine turned out to be the sending unit within the gas pump. Jeep would die leaving me on the side of the road. After a few minutes would fire back up and run for a few weeks then it'd happen again. Went on for months until we determined it was the gas pump sending unit.

Could I know my problem of volt meter not working, no running but it is crank for my 1998 jeep wrangler 2.5 liter? Thanks
@ForceBuilt8 ай бұрын
If you were connected to the right areas, Yes you can. Someone will have to be cranking the engine over while you look at the voltmeter. Thanks for watching!

Hi there. i also have that same problem with my 97 tj its been 2 years and i cant get to fix it. I changed the ckp sensor and the one on the distribuidor like 4 time each but it only fix it for a while and the problem comes back to bit me, here in mexico for me its kind of hard to find a good and honest shop that can help me and I still dont know what the issue is, sadly im starting to give up. i hope yours gets to be done with that pump fix.

Does your run at all. Or does it just shut off every now and then?
@gonzo2354 Жыл бұрын
@@ForceBuilt now it doesn’t run I just “fix it” like 2 weeks ago but now it doesn’t turn on, like yours at the beginning of the video and it does the saw every time, it’s kind of a bad joke

Thanks for the tip! It was the fuel pump.. The other problem I mention was wires grounding out on the CPS sensor which I didn't notice in this video..

@@ForceBuiltcan you give me some insight? Have an 02 tj that have to replace crank sensors and then dies at a later date and needs to replace again. Where were the wires shorting? Thanks

What about the Throttle Position Sensor on the throttle body. My went bad and my Jeep wouldn't start

I have it running at the end of the video.

Yeah seem that, was just saying that my Throttle Position sensor went bad and that was it. I love my TJ but they need constant work

I was wondering what types of primer did you use, and did you use the yellow color primer on bare metal?
@ForceBuilt Жыл бұрын
I did use the yellow Mar-Hyde primer on the metal. I didn't use bare metal etch and I do know that is the preferred method. I have used etching primer before just not this time. Around the windshield I did use POR15 where there were some rust pitting. I had the metal very clean and shiny before I primed and it hasn't been an issue at all.
@rtist-vp2nv Жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve, yeah that Mar-Hyde primer looks like it’s some good stuff..!!!!
