Sorry about what happened to your Jeep. I am glad that this is still on KZbin because I have two Jeeps that need conversion to fuel injection and am gathering information anywhere I can. Luckily I have a lift in my garage so that will make life easier. Both of my vehicles have 258s so it will be a great experience. One will retain the 258 and will be converted to Howell EFi and I am leaning toward a 40 for the other one since I just had a 1996 XJ given to me with a working engine.

Hi John, I'm in Connecticut and do not have to pass emissions given the "age" of my vehicle. as such, I hadn't planned to hook up any other sensors. Were there any in particular that you were interested in?

My donor was a 98 ZJ with the 4.0 and 42RE. My start/run is orange and hooks to 4 or 5 relays. Stumped me for a while. lol.

Question...I have a 1990 wrangler yj that has a 1989 Cherokee 4.0 engine now in it with fuel injection....is there a crossover harness ready made to add to complete all connections?

Hey I got an 88 YJ that I am doing the same to but my harness is a little bit older and I think maybe I have found the blue with the white Tracer wire but I can't find the yellow with red Tracer wire do you have any input on that harness the fuse box is just a little bit different

I was wondering if the same re wiring would work for a 99 Cherokee 4.0 donor into a 95 wrangler that had a 2.5 if yes perfects also how did you power all your light heater ext..? and my old 2.5 had a fuel and return line on the fuel rail the new 4.0 just has a fuel line on the fuel rail what could you do in this situation change the fuel pump or just cap off return line?

I have a couple questions if you don't mind. 1 what year is your YJ? 2. If I understand the swap right the XJ harness heavy guage red wire is receiving 12v positive from the power distribution block and is feeding power into the YJ harness through the three red wires. which is then feeding power to the ignition switch and then to the starter/fuel pump correct?

Hey man Great Vid!!! I was just planning to do this swap for my 88 YJ, This is some very good info. Also on your old 4.2 engine, is that a webber Carb? I Have on just like it. and Did you ever make the video about connecting the gauges to the Harness? I can't find any good diagrams or info about it.

Hey Rob, sorry to say that this project got scrapped. Some poor soul ran a stop sign and totaled my Jeep, so no more vids as nothing more will get done. Thanks for watching, let me know if i can be of further help.

I have a carbureted 4.2 1985 CJ-7 with a 4.0 cylinder head and EFI swap from a 1996 Cherokee . I am still in the middle of the swap...the fuel injection, head, intake and exhaust manifolds are already installed. Are the color coding of the YJ and the CJ-7 wirings the same? Your reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Butch, I'm sure you got it by now, sorry for the delay. Honestly, I haven't done a CJ so cannot attest to whether the wires are the same. best bet, download the the FSM for your year and model and map out the wires.

Hey Ryan, As I mention in my comment above, unfortunately the jeep was totaled before I could finish everything up. That said, I did run it for about a year with the wiring that i detail in the video, no problems. I just didn't have time to do gauges and accessories before the wreck.

Stephen Gillett sorry to hear. Have a question for you. Does it matter what ECU that I use? I have one that came with the 4.0 but don't know the specifics of what it was out of. 4x4 or not manual or not.

I have an 85 cj7 and im trying to figure out if the engine out of an 88 xj will work in it, will it?

Hi BJ, swapping XJ 4.0 into a CJ or YJ is pretty common, so you will likely have decent luck. That said, the motor that swapped in was much newer, so there may be some wiring differences.
