I’m a rock climber and know nothing about cross fit. Anyone want to educate a brother on why they use so much momentum in their muscle ups? Seems like really bad form or does form not matter in cross fit? Any info would be appreciated 🤘
@markpereira731 Жыл бұрын
It seems like CrossFit cares more about cardio and “efficiency” so they want higher reps with more momentum instead of strict pull ups/ muscle ups in my opinion

The purpose isn't to build strength in competition, it's to move efficiently and quickly. From experience, it still requires a lot of strength, coordination and power to go for that long. The grip strength alone just to literally drop your entire body weight from a height and still hang onto the bar for that many reps is huge.
@JuiceGrooves Жыл бұрын
It’s called a kipping bar muscle up. Totally different movement than a strict muscle up. CrossFit bar and ring movements tend to be more similar to gymnastics than anything else. While kipping certainly makes the movement easier and allows them to complete more reps, doing 36 of them plus running 1200m plus 63 dumbbell snatches in less than 8 minutes requires an absurd level of conditioning. I’d encourage anyone who doubts the difficulty of CrossFit to try completing this workout in less than 15 minutes.

@@cdn1588 yeah, I just don't get the point. the judges are not supposed to correct your form or judge quality of the reps. they simply have to ensure movement standards?! what you're saying is as if a judge wouldn't count a 100m sprint record cause the running style was bad?!
@cdn1588 Жыл бұрын
@AndiGraz it's not about the judges correcting your form. But if you don't use proper form several things could occur, one you could cheat the reps by doing them faster and two you could severely injure yourself. In both cases the reps shouldn't count because they weren't executed properly. I personally don't think a poorly executed movement should be counted.
@AndiGraz Жыл бұрын
@@cdn1588 the judges task is not to avoid an athletes risk of injury and with respect to cheating, I think his reps looked perfectly fine. also by now it has been pretty much disproven that "ugly" movement execution has a significant effect on risk of injury
