Jeff Baxter is, without a doubt, one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. IMO, he's up there with Jimi, Clapton, David Gilmour, Johnny Marr, BB King, and a whole slew of others.

For those wondering what he means by "illegal licks", I think he just means they're cliched and overused by certain guitarists. There's certain licks that you can spot in records by different people, particularly things like hammer-on/pull-off licks that are easy to play, and so a lot of people recycle them again and again.
@PhillipLandmeier5 жыл бұрын
I love those illegal licks. Does that make me a bad person? Lmao.

The guitar is a Roland guitar from the early 80's, looks like he added a Strat neck. Neil Schon played one in HSAS, check out their vids to see his red one. He also used one in the Journey video for "Chain Reaction". Steve Rothery also uses one in the Marillion "Kayleigh" video....cool guitars.
@Kohntarkosz8 жыл бұрын
The guitar Steve Rothery, Neal Schon, Eric Clapton and many others played was a Roland G-505 guitar, one of the guitars Roland put out to control the GR series of guitar synths (originally the GR-100 and GR-300, but also later the GR-700 and GM-70 MIDI guitar unit). There were actually several models, a couple that were sort of semi-Gibson styled (the G-303 and G-808) and a couple that were obviously Fender inspired (the G-202 and G-505), and eventually the ridiculously "futuristic" looking G-707. There were a variety of other guitar companies that made guitars for the GR synths, including Gibson (Steve Howe had a Roland equipped Les Paul that he still occasionally plays), Zion, Steinberger, Modulus Graphite, and a few others. You could also get a circuit card that had the Roland guitar synth electronics and install in any guitar (David Gilmour had a couple Strats equipped this way, and Steve Hackett still occasionally plays a blue Schecter Strat style guitar with the synth card in it). Jeff's guitar is a custom instrument, it has the GR guitar synth card, mounted inside what appears to be a plexiglass body (same as the old Dan Armstrong "see thru" guitars), with a Strat neck, and a Washburn Wonderbar Tremolo system.

I missed the synth interface. There's a Roland 'hex' pickup right up against the bridge and the synth controls are built into the body, which is a lot tidier than the usual stick-on module that Roland provides.

What kind of strat? Not your typical Fender. The body is lucite (see-through) and, as far as I know, Fender made only one lucite strat (the neck was also see-through) in the late 50s. Dan Armstrong also made lucite bodies in the early sixties. The tremolo is a Floyd Rose and the control layout is more like Gibson than Fender. Four knobs, an extra switch, non-strat scratch plate with pickup selector forward of its usual position. I'm guessing it's a custom build with a fender neck.

@fredriknorand They're guitar players, not musicians. Put them in a band, in a group setting with other players. WTF they gonna do fucking solo? LOL. Sad state of affairs in "music" today I'd love to see one of those "betya can't play this" wankers sit in for Skunk on some of the classic Doobies cuts. You know, play some actual music. Chord changes. Vibe with a band, other human beings. Wouldn't happen! But they can solo fast though. Gee impressive Give me a musician, a true artist any day
