@@ronperry5623 I understand what you are saying. I thought that a person would have to own 51% of the company, so to have control of the company. But I just read that Bezo only owns 16% of the company & that stockholders own the rest. Bezos has to get stock to make the company bigger. I dont like stockholders making a killing, but there is no way to stop that. Stock buybacks was outlawed after the depression. I liked Reagan. In 1980 I worked for a union, until Reagan started letting all these foreign companies come over here, that was Reagans way of busting the unions. i heard Reagan answered question why he let foreign factories in here. reagan said that we have factories over seas, too.But he made a blunder making stock buybacks legal. Stock buybacks are sorry for the country. These big companies are doing a lot of stock buybacks & are putting the money in the bank & giving it to big wheels. I think & hope that we will enter a short depression soon that will destroy these companies doing this. When it crashes democrats will beg Trump to fix things by bringing gold back. Its funny how averse many people are to this business model. This idea of constantly throwing all your money back into your company is basically rule #1 for any startup business. And Amazon has extended that into their adulthood. Its such a simple concept of inertia, you keep adding to the snowball and it keeps rolling. If at any time Amazon were to pull all investment activity and just stop, they would be flooded with cash. All the cash they have been pumping into the company plus more. Thats the whole point, it builds value in terms of money AND as a service so that in the future you get it back in multiples.

Jeff is so impressive in this interview - he says roughly the same things as Warren Buffett says all the time (interesting that he quoted him in the interview). Rather than profit people should look at how much Amazon's book value, total assets and intrinsic value has gone up by in the last 10-20 years (it's quite staggering). Today the company still reinvests cash into new opportunities (that still work) and is growing at a rate you'd usually see businesses a thousand times smaller grow at. Amazon is still THE share to own.

What a load of word salad. There’s a distinct difference between spending your profits to fund other businesses & making $0 in profit.

This mentality is how smart people manage and live their lives as well. They understand that making good little life choices everyday eventually sums up to great things and a great life. Short sighted people are always looking for the shortcut to the end goal.

Why don't other company do the same thing? Just reinvest all your profits to start new business, hoping that those new business will succeed which will generate more revenue which will drive the stock price up because of higher revenue?
@syedh28505 жыл бұрын
As he said, some companies start by wanting to make the most profits and report the most profits. If new companies came in and followed the Amazon philosophy then they will be fine by making "nothing" while getting bigger.
@NathanVu5 жыл бұрын
@@syedh2850 But I guess reinvest can cause you to loss money too right? I'm sure some companies did go bankrupt by trying new businesses and lost everything. Amazon seem to be very lucky.
