Everyone has Lost someone they LOVE, and this song is the most beautiful song expressing that pain- leaving that emptiness like a hole in our Heart😢

This is definitely the most beautiful cover of the song, but it’s definitely not a Christmas song. It’s about a broken and irretrievably lost love. Listen to the lyrics closely.

People do mourn during the holidays.. so it can be a Holiday song in that way. 💖

@@jaderiver1791 I suppose…but, it just annoys me how many people have never listened to the lyrics. They hear “Hallelujah” and think it’s about God. It’s always really creepy and disturbing to me when thirteen-year-olds sing this in competitions.

I think about God when i hear this song. I specially think about Jesus, that born on 25th Dec. and give his live for love. The story match with the lyrics. Most people unfortunantly forgot the meaning of Christmas because of food and unnecessary gifts. ❤
@Debbie3382 жыл бұрын
@@andreia.colibrii No, dude. You need to listen to the lyrics. Cohen used religious iconography in a lot of his songs. This song is about a great lost love that he never got back. Do you really think “Remember when I moved in you and the holy dove was moving, too” or “It’s not a cry you hear at night from somebody who’s seen the light, it’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah” are really about God?
When I found Jesus, I realized he really was the great "I Am"!

It may be surprising to you when you realize that singing this beautiful song rightfully gives praise and honor to Jehovah God (modern English) or Yahweh. "Jah" is a shortened form of Jehovah thus Hallelujah literally means, "Praise be to Jehovah" (modern English). Wikipedia states, "Hallelujah is a transliteration of Hebrew: הַלְלוּ יָהּ (hallū yāh), which means "praise ye Jah!" (from הַלְלוּ, "praise ye!" and יָהּ, "Jah".) The word hallēl in Hebrew means a joyous praise in song. The second part, Yah, is a shortened form of YHWH (Yahweh or Jehovah in modern English)."

thx for this breakdown, but this song isnt really abt the god and religion , its quite far from it , actually
@PuissantPeacock Жыл бұрын
@@percypotter4697 Leornard Cohen himself stated that the inspiration for his song was part “spiritual” and refers to a number of Religous subjects. “Organized Religion” is not what I was inferring although I’m not certain that you are the “Religion Police” either; making such a statement without anything to back it up is akin to gaslighting. In his Rolling Stone interview, December 12, 2019, the article is specifically about Cohen’s song and how it is full of spiritual, religious, and secular meaning, namely, that “King David earned him a spot in Jehovah’s royal court through his musicianship, the first step toward his rise to power and united the Jewish people.” The song displays for us the disastrous consequences of adultery both physical and spiritual. The article explains the Christian meaning of Hallelujah and that it is “an instruction to the listener or congregation to sing tribute to the Lord” or Jehovah God. Nick Baines, Bishop of Croydon stated in the BBC, “We’re broken human beings, all of us, so stop pretending, and we can all use the word Hallelujah because what it comes from is being open and transparent before God and the world and saying, ‘This is how it is, mate.”

@@PuissantPeacock okay , first of all i would like to kudos you on your extensive and vast knowledge on this song , bibilical stuff and the singers and also on your effort to spend your time writing such a big reply . But as far as it can be interpreted, though the song speaks abt christian god and jehovah and all that , but its deeper and actual meaning speaks about sex and (somewhat) love . I will admit i dont have your knowledge on this matter , and in my commoners understanding this is what i feel . Its up to each peoples own interpretation in cases of most songs , whether u accept or deny it .
@percypotter4697 Жыл бұрын
@@PuissantPeacock Hallelujah began its life with a religious slant, reflecting Cohen's Jewish heritage, with allusions to King David and Bathsheba (“The secret chord that David played”) as well as Samson and Delilah. Later versions were more sexual . The song is about heartbreak and disappointment and draws parallels with two Biblical characters that had problems with women. David with Bathsheba and Samson with Delilah. He compares his own lost love to the situation these people found themselves in.Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is a song about a powerful sexual obsession, ennobled by Old Testament references to King David and Bathsheba, and Samson and Delilah. It is certainly King David, in verse two, ogling the naked Bathsheba, but already the song’s point of view has shifted. We’re in the second person (‘‘You saw her bathing on the roof’’, ‘‘She tied you to a kitchen chair’’). This can’t be the same ‘‘you’’ mentioned in the first verse, because we know that David does ‘‘care for music’’.In the second Book of Samuel, it was King David who had all the power, forcing himself on Bathsheba, but in Cohen’s song, she’s the one in charge. She’s cutting the king’s hair (‘‘your hair’’) and emasculating him in the process (breaking ‘‘your throne’’), rather as Delilah did to Samson in the Book of Judges. She also draws ‘‘from your lips ... the Hallelujah’’. So what is this? A BDSM safeword? An exclamation of sexual ecstasy? Is he - are you, are we - taking pleasure in this moment? This are the unanswered questions and ideas that arise from the song and well , its up to us to guess its actual meaning.

@@percypotter4697 Hmm. I admit you have me at a disadvantage; I'm confused by your first post and the point you are making. The information you just posted is all in the Rolling Stone article (and Wikipedia) which postulates and then offers thoughts on the Religious and/or spiritual meaning of this song. I posted what Cohen said, not what others have theorized. But you stated, "...this song isnt really abt the god and religion" and yet your posts have proved just that, the complete opposite of what you posted. Is the song ONLY about praising Jehovah? Of course not and I would not attempt to comment on everything this song has to offer in this forum. Thus I am beginning to question your motives for posting your original opinion. To now say that it's "up to us to guess (or interpret) the song's meaning" is irrelevant for this discussion because the video, the people singing in the video, and the person who wrote the beautiful song did, in fact, intend for it to convey praise to Jehovah God as our posts have demonstrated. What more is there to say that is on topic?
