He has an incredible gift for words. And the duality of meanings here... the way it could be about a person, or maybe the inanimate object has been with him so long that it has a personality to him. We all have that thing we talk to when we're alone. We ask it the rhetorical questions we don't ask to anyone else. And it sounds like he sat down and wrote a song to thank his friend who has always been there. And honestly, I think his somewhat gruff voice, imperfect, makes it so much better and real.

When your daily relationship with your friends is "he's just that nice guy that works over on that production line..." it goes through an incredible change when this kind of opportunity occurs. In one moment they stop and gape at "who is this guy???" It is soooo much fun and so rewarding to surprise your friends with that unknown talent. Music and musicianship is one thing that can be so rewarding regardless of your age. I started playing clarinet & sax in a dixieland group when I was about 7 or 8 and singing when I was a bit older. Most of the people I knew had no idea. It doesn't have to be on a large stage like Jeff was on but to your unsuspecting friends it's very startling and a whole lot of fun!! Music just knows no limits.

Thank you to my 1999 Takamine CE10, 25 years together and still going strong. Every bonfire, every sad & lonely night when I needed someone to talk to, you would sing me.. Every time I talked in circles to her, you put me straight and helped me say what I needed to say. Through parents leaving, friends dying, drug addiction and alcoholism. You were forsaken when I couldn't help myself and pawned you, I love you and I came back fo you the second I could. You'll never go anywhere ever again. Thank you for truly being my Rough Road of Life Sidekick! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

There is an essence to his music that washes over you with such emotion. If the torch has been passed, it has been given to Mr. Daniels.

Never knew Jeff Daniels played guitar before seeing this. I've played guitar and written songs for 40 plus years. But that single line in his song about his guitar touched me in a way I never thought. "I'm not holding you, you're holding me." That was a way to see the instrument not as a tool but a part of one's self. And is also a great song I'd pay for. Thanks Jeff.

@@peter9111It could be, but it also isn't. People who play any instrument develop a deep "relationship" with how it expresses the things inside them that they can't articulate and often don't even know are there. Ever have a conversation with your car while you're driving somewhere? No one else around, just you and an inanimate object, the best listener around? Same thing.
