He has an incredible gift for words. And the duality of meanings here... the way it could be about a person, or maybe the inanimate object has been with him so long that it has a personality to him. We all have that thing we talk to when we're alone. We ask it the rhetorical questions we don't ask to anyone else. And it sounds like he sat down and wrote a song to thank his friend who has always been there. And honestly, I think his somewhat gruff voice, imperfect, makes it so much better and real.

Actually, Jeff is well known in composing circles with hundreds of songs to his credit. I’ve seen him a number of times here in Chelsea, Michigan where he’s from and owns the famous Purple Rose Theater. Fantastic poet, song writer, actor and just a wonderful person.

I met Jeff outside of God of Carnage in 2011. I was walking down the street and saw the crowd of people waiting for autographs, I scooped a playbill up while crossing the street and walked right up to him, as he signed it I said, “you’re best actor working today” he looked up at me and very heartfelt said, “thank you so much”. As a 30 year old man with BPD. Guitar has been the one constant in my life. The one thing that I could vent my anger, sadness, emptiness and graciousness to. I’ve never cried so hard hearing a love letter to such a beautiful instrument.

What I love about this is that Kelly had a real, genuine, connecting, close and safe experience with a man. A man who means no harm. Who can be vulnerable and humble.
