Brett Baty wears #22 for the Mets, i think he'll he changing his number. You don't sign someone like Soto with thst contract without letting him wear whatever jersey number he wants.

Ohtani contract makes sense but not Soto's. Why? Ohtani brings in more fans and more sponsors. This will increase organization's revenue tremendously. Plus, he pitches and had already proven with 2 MVPs at the signing, now 3. Don't forget he is ego-less guy who motivates others in a genuine way. Now Soto. Internationally not known. Zero MVP so far, don't pitch, and don't field well. Full of ego and greed. Not really a motivator. Provocative and rather short-fused. Could very well create friction in the dugout with others. Soto will have to play with lots of scrutiny and criticism with such a large contract. People's expectation will be really high. Can Soto respond by producing impressive numbers for at least coming 7 years? I highly doubt it.

He will, Soto is very mature for a young hitter extreme plate discipline and he makes those around him better ask Oswaldo Cabrera who made him better

@ExileOnMyStreet3 күн бұрын
The Yankees dodged a bullet. I'm glad we didn't sign him for this absurd amount of money. The key to Soto having a career season was playing in Yankee Stadium with Aaron Judge hitting behind him. This is an opportunity for the Yankees, not a loss.

Then why did the Yankees offer him over 700 million?? Did they think it wouldn't be a loss if he left?

Soto is the main reason judge had the year he did. Judge with Soto and Stanton around him it was difficult for pitching staffs. Plus Soto and Stanton were your main contributors to runs in post season. Stanton much older and always injury prone will leave judge wide open for more strikeouts or to simply pitch around him now. Judge is a regular season player that’s it can’t do a thing in post season crumbles under pressure time and time again. If judge played like Stanton I bet soto stays in pinstripes.

There was a couple of games in which the Yankees won and Juan Soto clearly outperformed everyone, however all the reporters would surround Judge. Even if you’re not an ego driven person, that stands out to you. Yes Lindor is a superstar, but he doesn’t get as much attention as judge.

People seem to forget that Soto can opt out after 5 years. Sure he can opt back in for $4 million dollars more a year for the remaining 10 years, but he could do that or maybe not. Its not a gimme.

The Yankees are better off without Soto. That's too much money per year for FIFTEEN years. Soto will be 41 by the time this contract expires. This is getting pretty disgusting, the average fan can't afford to go to a baseball game anymore.

That's assuming he's only 26. Dominican players often lie about their ages. It's pretty easy to get a fake birth certificate if you offer enough money.

Somehow am not surprised. Soto was very concerned when Lindor got hit in the face by a pitch in a game when he still was with the Nationals. The way he talked to Lindor showed some kind of respect and admiration. Was that a factor for him to sign with the Mets? Probably not. He was surrounded with his Dominican brothers in San Diego. Did not matter. This is his fourth team in a few years. Makes me think his loyalty is towards money. As good as he is at the plate, something bothers me with this signing.

@ bruh exactly I’m currently in Japan and he’s idolized here heck I even got a discount wearing my La Hat but the people here are humble and well spoken hence why ohtani is very liked he has deep roots of respect and not being ego. Happy for the Mets in the sense that they have chance better than the Yankees but in the end I’m glad he’s not with the dodgers for his egoistic demeanor. Ohtani has won it all pressure if off now he’s enjoying the sho 😌
