Best sermonic defense of the traditional ending I have heard.

Excellent word given! Especially demonstrating the "orthodoxy" of the text by Scripture interpreting Scripture.

Thank you for this excellent lecture. I was a theological liberal once and I studied under theological liberals, Anglo Catholics and even took course with Jesuits. All that to say that the “novel words” argument is pure liberal fantasy. I never found at all convincing, not even during those dark days.

The ending of Mark set me on a journey that horrified me to the errors modern bibles. My then 9 year old boy asked why the ESV bible had said some older more reliable manuscripts do not contain these verses. I said “what?”There is no rhyme or reason for scholars to put so much doubt in the word. Sad even pastors like McArthur are getting deceived and are deceiving the people

I do know that the passage in John 8, the beautiful story of the woman accused of adultery, is sometimes found elsewhere in John's gospel and even in Luke's. A reasonable reading should suggest that it is placed in the wrong place. However, it certainly belongs.

I have one question, how did the church agreed on the end of mark 9-20? How did they know that this was written by mark?

Porphyry, Against the Christians (2004). Fragments. Macarius, Apocriticus III: 16: Again, consider in detail that other passage, where He says, "Such signs shall follow them that believe: they shall lay hands upon sick folk, and they shall recover, and if they drink any deadly drug, it shall in no wise hurt them." So the right thing would be for those selected for the priesthood, and particularly those who lay claim to the episcopate or presidency, to make use of this form of test. The deadly drug should be set before them in order that the man who received no harm from the drinking of it might be given precedence of the rest. And if they are not bold enough to accept this sort of test, they ought to confess that they do not believe in the things Jesus said. For if it is a peculiarity of the faith to overcome the evil of a poison and to remove the pain of a sick man, the believer who does not do these things either has not become a genuine |86 believer, or else, though his belief is genuine, the thing that he believes in is not potent but feeble. Notice: A student of Porphyry is making fun of the ending of Mark Porphyry is 3rd century.

Thanks for adding this info James. This presentation was for the general church audience on Saturday. I gave a second and longer presentation on this passage at a ministers' fraternal on Monday, and I did make reference to the Porphyry in that talk.

@@wordmagazine Great. Keep up the good work. Without a stable Bible. We are like clouds floating on the winds of doctrine. Blessings.

I attend a PCA church which uses the ESV. We are currently in the book of Mark in the 11th chapter. The pastor made a comment on why verse 26 is relegated to the footnotes. And stated in about 3 months time, he's going to make the case why some verses should not be in the bible ( as he approaches the ending of mark). I warned my wife, watched this video, took extensive notes and will continue to build my arsenal combat such error that these verses do not belong in the bible. I LOVE that Thomas Manton quote! If we get rid of these verses, go all the way and get rid of the book og revelation, 2 Peter, and all that follow.

Can anyone give a viewpoint on the MEV translation, which is based on traditional text?

I know that Dr. Riddle uses it, and I just got mine the other day so I haven't read much from it yet, but what I've read I've liked and it seems to stick to the same original sources as the KJV, so I'd definitely recommend it over the NKJV that pulls from a bunch of different sources for the OT and even deviates from the TR. Does that help?
