Thank you! The big guy (white top/black pants) in the foreground is perpetually stiff and sloppy, while the kids are wild and sloppy. All that is easy enough to work on if your teacher cares.

This is garbage. You can tell by how sloppy the instructors stances are.

I believe on yellow 2, the push shouldn't touch your body , otherwise you could be pushed off balance.

Agreed - the ideal is preventing an attack from reaching your body. The tough part is in practicality it can be difficult to determine if/when a person will get physical. The bracing angle is key in the event the push touches the body.

You should have just added a BJJ school in addition to Kenpo.

Might still do that - there's a few good schools near me.

How is this a test? The instructor is showing the students the moves. When we graded the students showed the instructor. There is no ‘test’ involved here, just a standard lesson.

I will say you have a point but he should be practicing turning as push comes in , the hs dd if touch the body disrupts this, making the rest of technique useless. He is not a beginer by his belt for, this is yellow move.

I may not be looking at the same tech. Is the technique you're looking at delayed sword? That one is specifically designed to teach the principal of bracing angle. All yellow techs find a zone of sanctuary as the first action. Were the defender to advance into the push, that would be triggered salute, which is an orange tech, where students begin to learn to attack/advance in response.

Alternating maces...

The fun part about alternating maces in Kenpo 5.0 is they added a leading straight punch before the clear, to borrow the attacker's force and nullify the push. Took some getting used to from EPAK, but it's good.

I studied Tracy Kenpo to black and then Ed Parker Kenpo (American Kenpo) to black. Over the years I've removed and added things to American Kenpo and now I call it AKJ-american kenpo. I do not like 5.0. The jujitsu he has incorporated is more fitting for a strong man of 5'6" or more, not for a slim 5'2" man or female. I created 30 ground techs so you can get off the ground right away. That should be the objective of ground technqieus, to get of the ground and not to tangle your arms and legs around the attacker, which uses up strong you might not have or height you don't have. I like Speakman, but he missed the mark on adding the proper ground techniques. Sifu

Yes that makes a lot of sense - I'm fascinated by how things work on the ground, and agree that people should at least study how to defend against the takedown and recover. Being on the ground takes a ton of energy, and if one is primarily a striker, getting back to the feet should be priority.

Yes. Get up from the ground as soon as possible because of possibly more attackers.

@@joebaranowski8326 if you can grapple, the smaller man has a distinct advantage on the ground, it uses less energy but the issue is multiple attackers and concealed edged weapons. You won't be able to get off the ground unless you can wrestle.
