Which makes sense because there’s a lot to take in, listening to the beat, you get thrown off by the visuals, vocals and choreography. I really love Gawon's voice. I think the tone is really not something you often hear. And the face? THE FACE?!?! She looks sophisticated and cool. Everyone's pretty and cool but Gawon's visual just hits different (in my personal opinion of course)

SOOIN, the main dancer, she graduated from SOPA (School of Performing Arts Seoul), which is the most famous Performing Arts school in South Korea. I agree that their song's appeal is very subtle, but, definitely, their low-tone was immediately attractive. So rarely seen in kpop. A breath of fresh air. But yeah, it was a slow build-up for me, every time I listened to the song, their claws would slowly latch onto me. I ended up loving the song.

Thank you for appreciating everything else despite not liking the song. I feel like people has been too harsh on Meovv. KPOP has never been 100% about the music for a long time but people act like Meovv and Teddy committed a grave mistake and failed the music industry for being "too lame", "too repetitive", "too unoriginal". But some popular groups released the same ol thing and music that does not fit everyone's taste. It's really up to preferences but not even acknowledging other strengths of the song or the group... I think that's just being hateful

I wasnt really sold with MEOVV with the MV but i continued to check out their performance videos and THAT'S where they really started to grow on me. In the opening frame starting from the left with the white top - Gawon (Korean-American - born in the USA - 19), Anna (Japanese - 18), Ella (Korean-American - born in Los Angeles - 15), Narin (Korean - 17) and Sooin (Korean - 19). Sooin and Gawon are 15 days apart making Sooin the older of the two. Gawon is a former model and trained at YG at.some point, Anna is a model and actress and has been in some J-dramas and Ella was a child model and has done some acting in America. Ella trained at YG and is friends with the girls in Blackpink. She is particularly close to Jennie and people say she looks like her. The group's name, Meovv, is an acronym for My Eyes Open Wide. They also have teasers for each member.

Ella never trained at YG. She signed with TheBlackLabel in 2018 as a model and actress. In addition to her modeling for Adidas, she acted in six American tv shows from 2018-2023.

Yea I enjoyed this debut with the empty chorus I mean the meow has to be empty. I just wish there was more of a hard hitting rap part. The MV was the issue for me just a lot of simple sets with posing, even the fur suits moment going into the dance break did not fit. Once the performance vid dropped the next day the choreo hit so good. It made the song go harder I really enjoy the choreo and the dance break.

I really love their deep vocal tones too since it's unique among girl groups! However, I honestly have concerns about how that will translate to live performances. I've watched some of their perf in music shows but I can easily tell those are pre-recorded vocals, not live LIVE (a good example of live for real vocals among newer groups are KATSEYE music show perfs, you can search it up and see what I mean, been a kpop fan for years so I can tell). This type of singing is fine when it's a b-side (kind of like how you said you heard this kind of singing and tones more on western songs) but when you pair it up with kpop type of choreo? It's bound to be really harsh, cause singing in lower register AND just your chest voice is easier to end up in not so stable, shaky vocals. I also watched another vocal teacher reactor (I believe her name is Kat something, I'm bad at names sorry) but yeah she also talked a bit about her concerns regarding how they will do live performances with this type of singing and how stable they will be.

I guess this was the reaction i was looking for all along! You said everything I felt. My opinion is that the girls' vocals, delivery and performance carried this debut. I'm not saying the song is bad, but if any other group had debuted with it, it would've been underwhelming and lacklustre. These girls perform like they're not rookies or they're seasoned (just like you said). Narin, Gawon and Sooin were the 3 that instantly clicked for me when I watched this debut and they came after each other too. Their voices and delivery left me speechless. But combined with dance and other things, Sooin is really fighting for my top spot. Also, you mentioning Gawon's voice reminds you of Rami is so real bcus that was my immediate thought too and I kinda wish Rami was in this group because I feel the music Meovv will make will fit her voice and she would be better appreciated in this group because BM structures their songs around certain voices in their group and are wasting potential in ppl like Rami and Rora. Sooin immediately catching your eye in the dance practice too is expected bcus that video showed her dance skills way better than the moving camera performances, and my jaw dropped when I watched her in it. But all in all, GREAT reaction and analysis video!

Personally, not a huge fan of the song. It feels like just another Teddy song. This is no evaluation of the girls themselves. I am in LOVE with the dancers and the vocal quality (haven't watched any live stages tho). I think overall the group was overhyped predebut and didn't deliver what some fans were expecting in terms of production. Nothing against the girls! I'm going to wait until they have more songs before making a decision to stan or not.
