Can one just imagine what The Andantes were feeling while recording this in studio "A", superb pairing, perfect material, perfect record. The Magnificent 7 forever.
@SouLoveReal2 жыл бұрын
More often than not, the Tops' backups, the Andantes' backups, and Levi's leads were all recorded at different times. Usually, Levi and Co would to their thing, and then the Andantes would be added on as (what was later to be termed) "vocal coloring." The Andantes vocal-colored the songs on probably all of the Motown artists whenever an arranger/producer required it, in order to give a song a fuller sound. Great example: One of my absolute all-time favorites is the Temptations' "It's Growing" ... Oh, not to mention the Four Tops' "Still Waters."
@legendarymcdinis339111 ай бұрын
I’m told all 7 were standing shoulder to shoulder in studio A per Ivy Hunters insistence. No embellishing was needed when these 7 recorded. Notice the Andante leads then 3 Tops responses before all 6 combine to give it that powerful vocal effect as Levi takes commanding emotive leads.

If you listen closely, you can segregate Louvain Demps’ voice on backgrounds from outset taking a short leap over Jackie Hicks’ soprano. The call and response between Andantes , Duke, Obie and Lawrence’s voices, then combining all 6 behind Levi’s leads just genius production. This a true Masterpiece of pop music approaching opera quality in its effervescent quality.

They’re always white as well! And terrible dancers! Never seen proper black dancers on an old Motown video. Took them a long time to get it. It would have bugged me , as a black performer. But that’s how things were in those days. They just about tolerated the black artists. Unbelievable.
