About the album:
Surrealistic Pillow is American rock band Jefferson Airplane's second album. It is the first album by the band with vocalist Grace Slick and drummer Spencer Dryden. Certified Gold by the RIAA, Surrealistic Pillow peaked at number three on the Billboard album chart.
Lyrics:
One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call
And call Alice, when she was just small

At the opposite end of the spectrum there are songs that are "criminally" too long. Examples: "Hey Jude" (Beatles), "Isn't She Lovely" (Stevey Wonder) and "I'm Your Captain" (Grand Funk Railroad). In fact, "I'm Your Captain" seems longer than a 150-car BNSF double stack train moving at 20 mph.

I am in my late 60s and remember when this song was new. It blew peoples minds. It was unlike The Beatles or beach boys or Motown, it was out there, musically, lyrically, philosophically. Here we are five decades later, and it is still mind-boggling. Well written, yet dark and alluring, kind of like the drugs that inspired it.

This song perfectly works as a theme for the 60s and that whole hippies and free love era. I cant put the words together in my head that explains what this song is doing to me. I mean that intro alone has me completely hypnotized and has me feeling like im outside of my body and my mind is floating somewhere deep in space alongside the stars. I swear i love that this sing exists. The 60s was a magical time for music and unfortunately it will never be seen it that way again.

So this song got stuck in my head after i heard it and once at work i probably replayed it over 20 times. I started feeling dizzy too. Very veird. Especially when it comes to the "and the white knight is talking backwards" and progresses even more onwards. Doesn't happen when i listen to it normally though.

Yes,I'm 72. I drove out to SF from Boston. It was like seeing the future in the painful 1960's . You could live so cheaply then.

That movie really gave this song a new life and perspective, matrix truely take this song out and showed it the way it should be. Thank you for your wonderful work.

I love them all, but Grace has always been my favorite. There will never be another like her ever. Love you, Grace. And thanks for the music that I've never stopped listening to. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹

The song of a generation. You had to live in the '60s to truly appreciate it.
