Scale is mind-boggling at every level. Molecules are mostly "empty" space. Galaxies are farther away from each other than fathomable. Even at our normal level, before we had navigational aids on our devices it was difficult to imagine the scale of a trip to the store versus a trip to a nearby city. If only we could lose this naive notion that we were any good at this sort of thing, we might do better as a society. :)

Most people have no idea of the scale of the sun to the planets and all diagrams in books and graphics show incorrect scaling

Same problem with atoms. If you have a drawing in a book, the only way to make it legible is to get the scale wrong.
