You're right, Chuckie is talking about the actual definition of the word. Poet is changing the definition to match the slang way many people say it. Words have accepted definitions though and that is what Chuckie is getting at. Poet changing it is like a human with an XY chromosome saying they're female because they think the word female means something else in their world.

To be fair that show's a madness. The morality of insanity v sociopath/pyschopath argument, as well as nature v nuture, will go on through the end of time. It's such a grey area.

What's hilarious is that Poet is correct. The murderer in this context used to share a house with my cousin in Hither Green, and I even passed by the guy once going into my cousin's room. The feds raided the property while my cousin was in Malta, and though my cousin still has the room, what he saw in there spooked him to move back with his BM. Given I know more about the case (and the murderer's drug use and out of control fantasies), there's the context to know that the dude was truly insane.

Cool conversation, Chuckie more focused on "cause" as motivation, Poet more focused on "effect" as the outcome. Imo both cause and effect have to be equally considered in judgement, perception is reality, so trying to understand an "insane" persons perspective is potentially an impossible task. There's no such thing as "no reason", only a reason you may not be able to comprehend.

Should have started with defining insanity. The issue he is that of personality disorder vs. psychosis. Psychosis is the conventional understanding of insanity, whereas personality disorders as a justification for insanity is very much a debated subject. Dahmer likely had a personality disorder, sociopathy/psychopathy disrupting his ability to follow rules/regulations and disregard consequences.

Tracy, the guy you talk about to begin with (Only survivor) well....his testimony (which is on KZbin) is quite different to the drama version they put out. 1. He wasn't gay 2. He wasn't in a gay bar other stuff too, really feel for the guy. The lady (Glenda Cleveland) who kept reporting him to the police wasn't a neighbour she lived in an adjacent block. Its mad but they made it more mad

They're arguing the difference between law and justice - though it's called the justice system, it applies the law. Chuckie is arguing on what the law says i.e people being insane or not in the laws eyes; Poet is arguing what justice is- what he thinks basically. Justice is what the legal system intends to achieve but it doesn't properly work cos justice is subjective (opinion based) and law is objective. Also there are considerations in law (in the UK definitely) for when someone is clinically sane (Chuckie's argument) but they go insane (Poet's argument) such as battered wife defence like when a battered wife over time builds up and then snaps one day cos they're sane but in that moment they lost control. Poet's also got to remember his opinion is, in theory, based on him being sane and not having ever lost control to commit murder etc so of course he can't see how someone sane could lose it like that

man need to understand what chuckies saying.. The context of THIS situation is fuckery, BUT if the context was different e.g "the old ppl were pedos, the others were rapist and his girl fucked his brother" or "he was trying to escape and 5 people attacked him" seperately ppl might condone his actions. This situation werent that and thats fair, but you only find that out through context. It all just means that context matters..
@suelovesindiancinema9839
@suelovesindiancinema9839 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t usually agree with poet but I do in this matter. Chuckie’s argument wasn’t it. Killing 4 people can not be a sane decision if it is not self defense which wasn’t the case ,so any other context doesn’t matter. Now am not saying he shouldn’t pay for this crime because of insanity, that’s a whole different thing to me.
@mrstrangeworld5977

I think context can still make it sane
@suelovesindiancinema9839
@suelovesindiancinema9839 2 жыл бұрын
Ok, am opening to hearing a scenario where it would be a sane act, that is is you don’t mind…. Cuz the example chukie gave about what if they were pedophiles, my anwer to that is” that is why we have the law, file a complaint and sue them” I won’t say that deciding to kill them without a threat of losing your own life is a sane decision,,,, However I am not saying it would be wrong/right take revenge on molesters but that kind of revenge is driven by insanity in my opinion…. There might be a scenario where I can see your point but I can’t think of one right now
@DavvoBars
@DavvoBars 2 жыл бұрын
@@suelovesindiancinema9839 I think you have already answered that when you said "unless self defence". I think what your eluding to is the probability there will be an excusable context becomes less and less the more "horrific" the act. But that does not rub out context.
@VagaboundVice
@VagaboundVice 2 жыл бұрын
Chuckie is just saying that context matters. Not that context means that everything is justifiable. For example, to me what poet was saying is that you could take a statement like "person kills 5 people" and no matter what, that person would be insane. What chuckie was saying is that you have to see the context of why this person killed 5 people, because like he said (extreme example), what if those 5 people were pedophiles and actively harming someone. That could then make it justifiable to kill those 5 people, to save the person being harmed. On the other side, it could be the context is that a person wanted to kill 5 people because they wanted to see how easy it was to kill someone. I think most would say that's not justifiable. At the end of the day, I think Chuckie was saying context is how we should judge stuff like this

I think that’s why they have murder, manslaughter or pleading insanity. Which is why Chuckie is correct. Depending on the context in which someone was murdered it allows the prosecution to know which charge to go for and that they’ll most likely get. Obviously the act of harming multiple people is insane but is the person themself insane or is it a manslaughter charge?
