Corporate taxes don’t much affect a product’s price, since they are mitigated through capital expenditures. Labor rate have a much larger impact. Even if it costs an extra 30% to build a bike in the USA, it is still worth it.

Thanks for the question! The Exie is way fun. For so many places it would be a fantastic bike. I do live alongside a massive trail network that's predominantly flow/jump/double black DH runs, and that's far more Ripmo territory. I'd love to have one, but Ibis should probably focus on getting them to folks who ride more "normal" stuff more often first!

Would be nice if they made the seat post insertion a bit longer, looks like a straight tube so not sure why they limited it so much?
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed 3 жыл бұрын
Mike, for a bike like this, you'd only really "need" ~80mm of drop. A bike like this isn't built for jumps or crazy steep terrain. I think they did fine, TBH. I'll bet ~30% of these get built with traditional, non-dropper posts, too.
@IbisBicycles
@IbisBicycles 3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffKendallWeed We make the Exie in our US factory. One of the benefits is that it allows us to quickly iterate. The bike Jeff is riding in this video is an early prototype. We're big proponents of long dropper posts and we've actually altered our layup and manufacturing process so that we can insert the dropper further into the frame. Most medium sizes riders can run a 175 or longer dropper.

Hey Jeff. Is this the same bike that Jenny Rissveds are using in UCI XCO 2022, looks very nice that bike
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jack, I'm not sure exactly what Jenny Rissveds is riding, iirc Ibis was sponsoring her. I imagine it is similar, but with Ibis making these in house, it's also possible they could tweak the lay up to be either lighter, stiffer, or heck, stronger. I did certainly enjoy my time with the Exie- I was not expecting it to be such a great all-arounder in the backcountry!

Great riding footage (again!). Short stems might be trending , but I’m rocking a 50mm ranger on my HD5 (shifts more of my weight to the front tire during climbs). Ibis seems to get the geo right on most of their bikes- far easier to change stem length than seat tube angle 😜 sexy bike, btw. Fits your riding style perfectly.

In my experience owning this bike, it’s definitely a modern XC race bike. This means it’s a fairly decent full-sus, but it’s still got its DNA. Like Jeff said, blue and green trails are a blast. As an XC racer and marathoner I love it. Honestly, there are likely better “casual” bikes for the price depending on what you mean by it.

I wonder what the long term strategy is for USA mfg carbon frames. I guess if they can get $5k for just the frame, then it might be advantageous to bring more production locally. Wonder if other boutique brands will follow suit…

@@JeffKendallWeed I’m guessing for different reasons. Cost to transport/docks and just every other inflationary reason is now impacting the price. I’m looking to build from frame up, and can’t find a frame for much less than $4k…so, yeah $5k for a USA made Exie, might actually be (sadly) a ‘deal’.
