She is a well designed Trawler. Lots of very practical features. The standouts for me are the overall layout of the boat, the size of the lazarette, overhead hatch and sliding windows in the pilot house, Dutch door entry to the salon, sliding drawers in the galley, large space in the cockpit along with three access doors from the dock, the door to close off access to the engine room, midship owners cabin, the craftmanship of the woodwork and the stainless steel railings along the Portuguese bridge. Dare I say that her build quality appears to be up there with a similar size Nordharvn. Her lines certainly do compare well to a Fleming. Thanks for another great video Jeff.

In reference to the number of cabins, if you look at other boat channels doing 55 foot boats, like Princesses and Sunseekers, they are designed to do something very different than Trawlers. Even at 55 foot they are often charter boats, so they are in essence designed to be small hotels, like B & Bs. A 55 foot Trawler is almost always privately owned and operated. It is for a few people to spend a long time on. More like a house or an apartment. This is neither good nor bad, it's just they have different design goals and each does what it was designed to do.

With the greatest respect Jeff, the vernacular you use sometimes sounds like you learned your trade in furniture. E.G. boats don't have salons or cockpits. They have saloons & the area immediately off the saloon is called the Saloon deck. further aft is simply call the After deck. The outboard extension of that is called a landing tray. An area specifically design for navigation only, is called the Bridge. Hence, the Flying bridge. When the Helm is located in a shared space, it simply called the Helm. Often, that area aft of the flying bridge is often referred to as the sundeck. It is not my intention to disrespect you in any way, but us Old salts do wince when someone sounds like they are selling planes. Good luck with the sale. Great review. Beautiful craft.
@JeffMerrillYachts Жыл бұрын
Ridka: OK, appreciate your opinion, but disagree. I am 65 and started racing sailboats at 7. I'm not sure what you count as an old salt, but add three years of professional sailing in 12 meters on an America's Cup team and 30 + years in the marine industry and I'm not a furniture salesman. My nomenclature is unchanged over decades and I think your terms may make sense to you, but my choice of descriptions for rooms is rooted in day to day business activity and I'm not going to change. Landing tray? That's a new one to me and kind of indicates a disconnect with the recreational trawler market. Please don't wince, if my choice makes you cringe turn off the volume, but I hope you will accept that the boating public understands my word choices. Thanks for watching.

@JeffMerrillYachts Жыл бұрын
Gary: I am sure that your friend enjoys his 1980 as much as the owners of Finish Grade love their 2009 Selene 55. Better? What does that mean, it can't possibly be...//:0) I'd take Finish Grade over eight Marine Traders every time (make that ten). Not even close to a reasonable comparison and I hope you know I'm trying to lighten the chat. Any boat that floats is better than being on land, but your questioning of the price is inappropriate and uniformed. We have a lot of interest in Finish Grade, she is an excellent value. Maybe your friend would like to move up?
@kari53 Жыл бұрын
@garyjensen3414 You are comparing apples to oranges. Sure, they are both boats but designed for completely different purposes and uses. The Selene's range alone is worth it's price tag and yes it has two engines with the 2nd get me home engine. The amount of backup power and A/C power this trawler has is awesome. I'm not sure if you are a trawler specialist like Jeff and his team are, but you're not taking into account the long cruise luxuries this vessel has. In a market where to order a new trawler and have a yard in Taiwan, Turkey, USA, or the Netherlands build it, then have it shipped takes time and way more money than 1.2M used. Each to his own but not the same comparison. It's like comparing a 1960's VW bus to a Mercedes Overlander.

@JeffMerrillYachts Жыл бұрын
mp: Happy to discuss this directly if you are a million dollar buyer, I can explain the delta. However, I'm guessing that you are not familiar with Selene - fuel tanks twice as big? Top cruise 15 knots? Not what this boat is designed for. Every boat on the market is negotiable, but you have to know what you are buying... The price is very fair and represents a great value when you weigh her condition, equipment and market demand. We are seeing record views on this video and setting up showings. Selenes are lovely and oh-so-well made. Unfortunately, they are slow (7 knots !?!) [Selene architects really need to rethink their hull design philosophy] and fuel capacity is seriously disappointing. However, once you've got to where you are going and thrown the anchor overboard, your favorite sundowner drink is going to taste so good you may pass out. Overall over-rated and over-priced, but damn comfy. But hey, it's your money and the dolphins still think you're funny looking.
@JeffMerrillYachts Жыл бұрын
31:The Selene brand is designed for slow speed - to travel long distances safely, comfortably and reliably. This is intentional, going faster is not the goal. They hold enough fuel to cross oceans, I'm not sure how much you think you need, but the standard capacity can be supplemented with fuel bladders. These boats are happier out cruising and exploring, but everyone can enjoy a cold beverage once you arrive and are settled.
