I recently tackled a bathroom floor installation myself, and your tips are spot on! I used a diamond cup wheel to remove the thin-set, just like you suggested. It made a huge difference in prep time, and my wood subfloor was ready for the next steps in no time. One thing I learned is to really pay attention to the mixing ratios for the self-leveler. I went with a similar mix as you mentioned, and it worked out perfectly. Using a spiked roller was crucial for achieving that nice, even finish. Thanks for sharing these insights! I'm looking forward to trying out more techniques from your videos.

This video was great and to the point and definitely helped with my current job attempt. I purchased about $5k worth of epoxy flooring for my home from a company called Leggari and an ground area that used to be outside and now has a custom stone fireplace had a pitch to it for rain/runoff that needed to be leveled. This video helped a ton since this was the first time i've ventured this, so thank you. If I had to give any advice, take as much time as you need to prep and seal up all the perimeter with great stuff and/or caulk or whatever so as mentioned in this video, no self leveling mix will penetrate. Once the prep is sound, don't be afraid to make the mix wet and runny. If its not runny or thin enough it wont roll out as easy. Once your pour it, there's no doctoring it. Runny and thin will allow it to lay out in every crack and low spot. It may take longer to set but will be less work on the back end as far as feathering or grinding, etc.
@DaruDhillon11 ай бұрын
Excellent video and tips! Be careful not to add extra water as it will weaken the self-leveller which can cause cracking. Like you say floor-levellers that are on the runny side are easier to level and smooth out.

So I did my first self leveling according to this video. I have to agree with Yodaguy, it is too easy to apply too much expansion foam and to be honest it is absolutely not necessary to use it in conjunction with silicone and Sillseal. I still recommend keeping the expansion foam on hand, it is a good dam at the end of the day and I used it to fill gaps undearneath my doors. So it is still useful, but it was not helpful around the perimiters. Another helpful tip I could add is work fast, and dont be gentle. Really just dump the whole bucket as quickly as you can and dont worry too much about leveling it. You still need to push it around. But if you try and manually level in sections and pouring slowly you're going to get a very wavy pour. Ask me how I know. My second layer went much better and I was able to get better coverage. Thanks for the video, it was a very good place to start at least

And in order to save on materials if you have the time, e.g. on a large floor area where you have 24 hours between floor prep and putting the leveler down, you can use an latex caulking with silicon in it. It takes longer to dry and seal, but is far cheaper and gets you the same result. If you don’t have the time, use a fast drying caulking with silicon (

The pink stuff is to give everything a smidgen of room to expand and settle, so I'd say you'd still want to use it wherever you're doing a project like this.

How self levelling is it? It doesn't look like you need to worry about little ripples etc when doing the final touch ups with the squeegie....is that right?

How can I prep for the floor leveler if my current flooring is concrete?

If you need the primer for the product to adhere to the wood. Then why did you NOT prime before sealing joints and screws?

Did you wait the full 8 hours specified on the can for the Great Stuff to cure?

Finally a video where trolls haven't said, "but you missed this, but you didn't do that, and you could've, would've, should've!". Lots to do in this video, it is not for first timers.
