Thank you so much Jeff! Here’s some feedback you probably you didn’t expect, but your videos have been supporting my voice through a gender transition! I used to be a soprano and singing is extremely important to me. When I started testosterone and my vocal cords started changing I was determined not to lose the joy of singing. Your videos have given my new voice strength!

There's no such thing as gender transition. One cannot become one's own opposite sex, end of story. No advance on this original problem is made by calling it "gender" instead of sex. There is no such gender as being one's own opposite gender. People who pander to your mental illness are not your friends, they are weak and don't care about you. The ones who care about you are the ones who will tell you the truth.

Jeff, the baritenor warmup is amazing. I've been singing acapella four-part (SATB) harmony all my life, always tenor. BUT, I feel I've never been tenor "enough" to do justice to singing in a sustained way over the secondo passaggio. And while I do have a fairly decent lower range, I certainly can't pull off the bass part. Baritenor is the perfect solution to my lifelong quandary. Thank you for bringing the baritenor range out of the closet.

Thanks a lot for the warmup for this voice type. I haven't seen other people do warmups for baritenors so I'm really glad you did it. I wasn't quite sure if I'm a baritenor before I did this great warmup of yours but now I'm sure thanks to this video. When I just started singing at 14, I was told by my vocal teachers that I'm a bass baritone but it didn't feel right because my voice never cracked growing up, it just lowered in pitch from a low Tenor I think. That's when I really worked very hard on my voice and increased my range on my own. Over several years I was able to built my high range and it started fiting standard baritone range and then got higher than that and my speaking and singing voice got higher as well. That's why my voice and range became a misfit in the male voice type classification. My voice is not as high as tenor but it's higher than a baritone. It feels good to discover that there is a name for my voice type as well such as "baritenor" even though it's not official. After some researching, I realized that some people also refer to it as high baritone, lyric baritone, baritone with some tenor notes or baritone with some high notes up the sleeve or like you mentioned in your other video a tenor that didn't transition.

Hi Jeff, I’d like some more Baritenor stuff. I’ve been working on my voice with your help for a couple of years now. I started with the gentle baritone warm up and just kept working it. My range has been increasing. Now I am carefully adding (some) of the tenor warm ups. The baritenor range may describe me. Ir maybe the “medium” voice. I’m not too hung up about bass/baritone/baritenor/tenor classifications. The only real thing I can guarantee about my voice is that it’s my voice, and I’m having fun developing it. btw, I did subscribe, like and patreon you. I’d feel stingy if I hadn’t.
@JeffRolka2 жыл бұрын
Hello! I can promise that there will be more baritenor videos coming! Thank you for all your support, subscribing, liking, and patreon! I really appreciate it! I don't know that you intended to ask a question, but you've brought up a lot of points in your comment that I feel we could all benefit from thinking about it. I'm going to talk about them in Questions from Comments 33! Thank you! Jeff

@@JeffRolkaPerhaps the comment is less a question and more of a 'Thank You'. Your videos and using them almost daily has. made a great difference in my voice. Hey Jeff, long time viewer first time commenter here. Might you consider doing a lesson based on various vocal effects that contemporary vocalists use (distortion/rasp, squeal, scream)? Many of us have only heard these sounds after they've been processed and gone through the implementation of various mic use techniques. It would be extremely helpful, to me at least, to hear what these techniques sound like before processing etc so as to get a sense of what we're shooting for when trying to replicate these sounds in our daily routines. Cheers and a happy new year to you and yours
@JeffRolka2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ian! I'll give it some thought, and I have some recommendations around practicing those effects, but in truth, actually using those colorations is not something that I personally practice. That being said, I'll give it some thought and either address in a Q&A video or do a tutorial on it. Best, Jeff

Happy New Year! …and welcome to the Year of the Baritenor (I just made it official).
