Have you got any exercise videos that are especially focused on smoothing the primo passaggio for Baritones? Most exercises I see are focused on smoothing the secundo passggio, but I think a good chunk of us haven’t even figured out our primo passaggio coordination. Thanks!

Not really, but any video that doesn't have 'full range' in the title would stay below the secondo passaggio and consequently, could be used to focus one's attention on their primo passaggio. Best! Jeff

Can I ask a favour, could you do a full scale peice for us to practice? From Base all the way through to soprano? I used to do piano as a kid about age 8 but only got to stage 2, but do know the treble key notes, always got dyslexia confused on base notes. All the other reminders are fantastic.

i can’t sing above an A4 (maybe an A#4) without using my head voice and it’s really freaking me out because i don’t think i’ll ever get any good roles in musical theatre with that low of a range, i’m a girl and i can sing down to a D#3 i really don’t know what to do abt that low of a range. any tips? not to mention while i can hit an A4 i go flat on it pretty easily

Great question and observation about your voice. The term 'head voice' has different meanings depending on what teaching methodology you've referenced in the past. That area of your voice, around a4, is in the 'middle range' of your voice. For full sounding vocals the balance of thyroarytenoid and cricothyroid dominance needs to be worked out. Those are the muscle groups that control the vocal fold. If you're going flat, there's too much thyroarytenoid dominance at that range. My channel has a lot of exercises that use short syllables, those are helpful in working on this balance. I would start there and also re-evaluate your appoggio breath management practice. I hope that helps! Jeff

It would really help with the transposition! It's not terribly hard to learn, would you like me to do a tutorial on knowing what key one is in? Best! Jeff

Dear Jeff, I already know how to transpose a melody because I’ve studied piano for twenty-one years. However, I’ve only begun training my voice two years ago for broadway and classical music. (Visit my channel if you want to hear me) Since you welcome questions and try to answer as many as you can, here’s mine. How can you stabilize the lower register in the tenor voice so that those notes are as firm and solid as the upper register? I’m doing pretty good for an amateur but the biggest problem I have is that anything below the F below Middle C falls apart after fifteen minutes of warm up. Could you please do a video on this? It would mean a great deal to me. Thank you for all your videos. You are very inspiring.

Hello Lukas, great question! Tenors get their power in that range by using brilliance, or the singer's formant, more predominantly. If that range 'falls apart' for you after a few minutes, I suspect that you're trying to emphasize lower partial response more than the higher partials. Adjust that and let me know how it goes! Best wishes!
