FYI VPS-Avenger has a really sophisticated sequencer built in that can lock to a scale. It can also play chords as well as single notes.

Thanks a lot Jef, without these videos so many features of the NI instruments would stay hidden under the hood. I love how you said that you have to rewatch your own videos, I also forget features all the time, epecially in Maschine. One thing I would love NI to add to the sequencer would be a humanize function for velocity and timing.

Thanks for showing us this. After the video I thought it would be cool to use the sequencer on other instruments, too. Turns out you actually can route midi-data from kontakt and plug them into other vst-instruments in your daw. "Settings -> Engine -> Send Midi to outside world -> Script generated notes". At least in cubase you can then use kontakt as a midi source for other instruments and build pretty complex soundscapes controlled by this sequencer.

As soon midi out is used from a instrument to pilot another one….after one cycle you get the infamous unsync problem…still there in 2024…. So the loop as to be quite long in order not to restart the cursor manually everytime to regain sync. Lot of people suffer from this….

Being able to set the key/root-key is hilariously revolutionary. I wish every sequencer would implement this logical feature. I’ve been waiting for this forever. Hive2 is the only other instrument I’ve found that can do something like this but it’s not inherently part of the sequencer itself. Simple awesome.

I've never used the sequencer in Komplete Kontrol. I had always used the Seq/Arp in Logic midi FX because I knew how it worked, but this feature to keep it in the relative key is great.

ah, when you record you just get the single midi note trigger - not all the notes of the sequence - then if you change preset, you lose the pattern. Is there a way in KK to have all the midi notes of the sequencer recorded?

@@JeffyG Hey Jeffy G! Do you mean to export the MIDi sequence? Not that I'm aware of... you can save your sequencer pattern though, and load that in another preset! (the 3 lines in the sequencer window)

Thanks for another great tutorial Jef. love the play series. You can also route the sequencer data to another instrument which can be fun, and that also lets you capture the actual sequence midi when you record the target instrument. Allows you to sequence pretty much any instrument with some panache.

Set the input of the second instrument to "Kontakt - EventOutput", monitor or arm it, then play the Kontakt instrument and it plays the midi through instrument 2, which you can also record if the track is armed. Hope that makes sense? That's how I do it in Cubase 12 Pro, not sure how it'd work in other DAWS, similarly I would think.

I also want to know how to get the MIDI out!! I was so floored when I found out that you can get the MIDI out from "The mouth", so it works like these microphones you can sing into and it becomes MIDI instantly, so you can sing in all your instruments instead of playing. Live.
