Pétur that is one of the best renditions of this piece! Please keep posting more!

I must confess: I know Jehan Alain thanks to the Renaissance's masterpiece "Running hard". Now though: goose bumps!

Magnificent performer, magnificent instrument, extraordinary piece (worth researching the pain and loss Alain experienced due to the sudden and unexpected tragic death of his beloved older sister, which resulted in his composing these “invocations”, “Litanies”), fully realized by this conjunction of brilliance.

This is spectacular, especially the ending with 6 notes for the left hand lol

Petur if Jehan was alive he would have loved the skill you have to beautifully deliver this magnificent piece, your playing of this is without doubt certainly the best I ever heard and when I feel a bit low it lifts my spirits. The accuracy is incredible. I first heard this in England many many years ago on the Lichfield cathedral organ , I was blown away by its beauty and intricacy then, then to learn about Jehan, what an incredible man, Petur you do it justice, thank you.

Not yet! There is a CD from Saint-Étienne-du-Mont by me for BIS Records. Check it out if You are interested (Tournemire, Duruflé, Dupré etc). Next year will come out several recordings as I have started to record the Complete Works by César Franck and Louis Vierne, beside some contemporary stuff.

Fantastic piece! Great organ. I personally find the performance too rushed and hurried. A big church needs more breathing time between sections

Ooh I completely disagree! Marie Claire Alain in her notes on performing this piece talks about how the sections should be played with absolutely minimal pause to create a “breathless” effect - quite the opposite of letting it breathe. Here he actually does give more time than written to the ends of sections to accommodate the acoustic, but I think any more and it would lose the sense of breathless urgency that is integral to the piece. It is, after all, inspired by the rapid “tornado of prayer” that is the sung Catholic litanies, in which the next line always comes in overlapping with the end of the last. I personally found some of the rubato a bit much here, and thought it did indeed detract from the forward momentum of the piece. But I do think some parts were rushed, and in particular the crotchet-quaver rhythms being played as dotted instead of how they are written is a particular thing that M-C. Alain warned about avoiding at all costs.
