honestly these obscure bands with very short lifespans inspire me to just create in the spur of the moment. i guess theres no right way to make music, as long as its the medium in which you would want to convey your feelings. you dont have to keep going as a band if (unfortunately) things didnt work out, but man this is such a gem

I think what drives us to this music, and other music like it. Is its "pure" and "raw" feeling to the tone of the performance, and song as a whole. To me.. this is the "realest" music you can hear. no ego. no image to uphold or cling to. Just unbridled emotion and feelings, poured into a song, that sat up on a dusty shelf. just waiting to be rediscovered and cherished all over again.

I wish I had met such person and actually became friends and they'll recommend me more songs like this. But instead, it is KZbin who introduces me to this genre. I actually prefer this kind of emotional song than modern/nowadays sad songs, emo has more soul, and more touching melodies, lyrics, and the many other things that I feel relatable with me.

The part where the girl starts singing is so haunting, it literally takes my breath away. It makes me think of my ex from high school who tried her best to forget about me with heavy heavy drug use. She may have truly forgotten who I am. She told me she was trying to. Recently I was crushed all over again to hear that she has memory and cognitive damage from 15 years of excessive heroine use and talks like she had a stroke. I wonder if she would remember me at all. Or if she would understand my behavior and accept my apology now if she knew that I found out I had/have autism and I understand that I was wrong in so many ways. I fear the girl I knew is already gone now.

It took me years to fully comprehend it all. My life is like a roller coaster always going up and down but things are looking up right now. It looks like I'm going on a hike with an amazingly beautiful girl I really like this weekend. I'm also writing up a nice neutrally worded apology letter to the girl from high school. It has some key memories written in it to help her remember the good times we shared and hopefully it shows that I understand and regret all of my bad behavior.

@@carpeimodiem2000, if im correct !! im really liking this band and ive been a fan of midwestern emo music for years now. thank you so much ❤
@carpeimodiem Жыл бұрын
@@blueovine it was released posthumously after their breakup in 2000. Which were b-sides and singles that the label scrounged together. Which is why they called it "rip". But the song is a few years older than that. 97 I think. You know what's funny about that genre title... So back then everyone absolutely hated the term emo. Especially the bands themselves. But it was the 90's and everyone hated every kind of label then. But this was many years before anyone said "Midwest emo". And I would literally call that style of band "Midwest music". So all the shows were very small and quaint. Everyone would be talking with each other all the time in the venues. This was before internet culture, so you had to get social interaction where you could. And these were the only people you really wanted to talk to anyway Plus you'd always be talking to the bands themselves at some point. And some of them heard me say "Midwest music". And people just kind of agreed that it fit. Even when the bands weren't from anywhere near the Midwest. But that's where all the fests were. And I think it always felt like home there with that sound. 😂 I really don't know but... Maybe I started that expression hahah I barely had a driver's license. But I put on shows in my basement with my roommates and I. We had some really cool bands play there like Braid. And Blacktop Cadence. Legends now. That's the real spirit of this music you love so much. It comes from a disconnected world, yearning for that feeling of true connection. If you want to feel like you were back there with us... I highly recommend getting your hands on "The Unheard Music". It's just a photography book about that scene. I think someone was quoted as saying that mid-90's post-hardcore was the last true underground scene. Before Napster started and no one had to cross state line to find a record anymore. But for all that modern convenience, which I certainly appreciate... Being able to find great new music on the fly any hour of the day... I really do miss it. It was beautiful. You've probably already heard Early Stars from these guys. If you haven't checked out that or anything from Christy Front Drive... Those guys were my favorite in that era. Don't take human connection for granted. Carry the torch, my young friend ❤️🔥

@@carpeimodiem bands break up all the time, but its always sad when you find that out, yknow? the name for the compilation is very fitting. its really interesting to know that they DIDNT like the term emo !! thats definitely surprising, but i also get the hating labels stuff. i wish i could find local bands that were in the genre midwestern emo or close to it, but i live no where NEAR the midwest. i like the sound of basement concerts and small festivals and being able to talk to other fans and the bands themselves face to face. maybe i will be that band one day. maybe you did start the expression !! i wouldnt be suprised. its amazing what you could put together in your basement. all the cool bands that you had there !! i find small community online with fans of this type of music, but i know that finding connection with others in the real world will be unmatched. i yearn for that kind of community, and to be able to feel passionate about this stuff way down the line surrounded by others. ill definitely look into that book !! i would imagine that the 90s, just before the massive internet boom, definitely had amazing underground scenes that just cant be recreated today. what you talk about truly does seem amazing. i just hope the youtube algorithm does me good in music recomendations, something that spotify cant really recreate. id love a better record store near me. i have heard early stars but i havent listened to any christy front drive, ill definitely give them a listen !! im gonna assume youve listened to marietta, since theyre a bit more popular in modern midwestern emo and whatever other genres they stretch into. maybe youve also heard these too, and maybe theyre not even midwestern emo, but i really like Vulcan Death Grip by Old Gray, Dan Dan Dan Dan by oh my god elephant, Maybe You Were Right by You'll live, stuff from Free Throw, Title Flight, Merchant Ships, Tigers Jaw and Mom Jeans. especially. not exactly underground, but still amazing bands !! maybe you could take a peek at Car Seat Headrest if you havent already ?? they might be on the boarder of whats considered midwestern emo or not even there at all, but going to their older albums and other stuff Will has made does seem have that sound to them a bit. theyre a great band !! if anything id listen to Monomania if i were you. just a recommendation though, no pressure !! i dont think ill ever take it for granted. ill carry the torch far, dont worry, and thanks for the recommendations and stories ❤️🔥
