The Orchard brought me here... I think this is a great song, and I love the singing and the melody, but I'm a little confused by the lyrics... Now, full disclosure: I just finished reading the Bible this October, so I'm new at all of this and I don't really know what I'm talking about, but is "The God of War" usually associated with ancient deities in polytheistic religions. It's like singing to Odin of Valhalla, if you know what I mean... It's my understanding that we are called to be soldiers, and there is a war happening even now as we speak (Ephesians 6:11-17, James 4-7, etc.) But God is mutifaceted with attributes of love, mercy, JUSTICE, and omnipotence and not the "God of War." Just a random thought from a new convert. It's meant as no disrespect. If anyone has any feedback on the subject, that would be great. Thanks!

Hi new convert. May Yahweh bless you and the Holy Spirit continue to teach you. Yahweh is both a God of war and of peace. He has many characteristics - he is a God of peace, a God of war, a God of healing, a God of deliverance, a God of provision, a God of mercy, a God of love, etc. Here are a few scriptures that will help you out on this. Exodus 15:3 - The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name. Joel 3:9-10, Jeremiah 20:11, Isaiah 42:13, revelations, etc. All throughout the bible (old and new) refers to battles and wars that we believers must fight and angels of the Lord fighting battles. If we and the angels are soldiers then he is the commander. The Bible refers to him as a mighty warrior. He is the one who fights our battles, so he is the one who wars on our behalf by whatever means he chooses. Hope that this helps.
