TKA’s Smith Family Conservatory of the Arts, a two-time American High School Theatre Festival award-winning fine arts program recently produced "Jekyll & Hyde" featuring Gregorio Umana in the leading role. The Smith Conservatory is led by Mr. David Snyder (Artistic Director, Musical Theater, Department Chair), Mr. Nathaniel Adams (Director of Vocal Arts), Mrs. Cathy Higgins (Director of Dance- Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz), Mr. Douglas Gawriljuk (Dance- Ballet and Modern), Mrs. Heidi Martin (Theatre Arts), Mr. Brad Majzner (Stagecraft & Technical Director), Mr. Wes Lowe (Director of Instrumental Arts), Mrs. Stephenie Grasso (Instrumental Arts) Mr. Patrick Clifford (Instrumental Arts Strings), Mr. Austin Parenti (Media Arts Director), Mrs. Mary McCarty (Media Arts), Mrs. Laura McFaden (Visual Art), Mrs. Virginia Nucci (Visual Arts), and Mrs. Robin Phillips (Instrumental Arts Piano).

I actually really like madame stride as a character. Instead of a suitor that cant stay no, madame is a step away from being a mother figure because of her criticism and warning about jekyll to emma.

Yeah! Plus, Im pretty sure Stride (at least in the original musical) is implied to be a fair bit older than Emma, so her being a mother figure to Emma feels a lot less uncomfortable 😅

plus why did they replace her old boyfriend and replace him with a female? that sort of kills the dynamic of jekyle getting rejected by the board due to her x's vote against him?

Theatre always has to be flexible and adapt to the available actors who can portray the parts.

@@fardareismai4495 If there’s no other choices then yes and if it doesn’t subtract from the overall plot or context of the story itself. There’s one of two things going on here based on my own experiences. 1. They didn’t have enough men and they swapped gender roles while keeping the context “roughly” the same of the story with minor deviations to character interactions because of said swap. 2. It was an idea to do something different by the director by flipping the gender of the roles and thus add a different dynamic to the story but while keeping the tone of the original plot intact.
