I still can't get over the fact that the fucking geek left her his business card instead of returning her advances. I mean, no wonder Lucy fell for him. He's probably the only man she's ever met who flat out told her that she was a better and more interesting person than she gave herself credit for. Who saw that there was more to her than just her sex appeal, and who actually meant the phrase "If anytime you need a friend, just come over and we'll have a chat" LITERALLY. She was so used to being treated like an object of desire by everyone that this completely threw her off. As we find out later, though she struggles to admit it and confuses that feeling for love, all she ever really wanted in life was for someone to see her for who she really was, someone who could give her that physical and emotional security that she so desperately craved. Someone who could help her spread her wings in a way she couldn't on her own. Yes, there was physical attraction involved on both their ends, and that attraction only grew with time. But as someone who takes his status and outward appearance very seriously, Henry certainly wouldn't make it easier for himself to be unfaithful to Lisa by encouraging Lucy to come see him. And if he really wanted to cheat, he could have done so without inviting Lucy to come over to his house WHENEVER SHE FELT LIKE IT. He could have just walked away that would have been that. But he didn't. Because he, in some way or another, saw her pain. He saw that in a way, they were similar, both trying to keep up appearances and playing their role in society, keeping their true selves safely locked away so as to not crack under the pressure. And to me, that just makes it so much more tragic to see what happens later. Hyde was the product of all that pent up frustration, pain and anger, all those habitually repressed urges that are natural to every one of us, but couldn't be let out because of societal constraints and inhibitions. And those were of course infinitely more restrictive in the victorian era. Being faced with the sudden, unfamiliar freedom to do whatever the hell he wanted and the inability to feel shame or responsibility was utterly overwhelming and confusing, and so he snapped. If Henry hadn't taken the potion, they could have leaned to be there for eachother in a healthy way, as friends, taking baby steps towards a happier and more fulfilled life. But of course, we can't have nice things, and that sadly isn't how the story goes, no matter how much we'd like it to.

I just discovered this musical last week, and have discussed all this at length with my dad. Brilliant analysis! Completely agree. I yhink Jekyll was also too egotistical for his own good. He wants to blame this evil half of him for all that Hyde did, but it wasn't Hyde who became attracted to Lucy, or got angry at the board of governors, or who decided to pursue his experiment, no matter the cost. That's one of the interesting parts about this.... Hyde acted on Jekyll's emotions. And regarding Lucy... I mean, as Hyde, he was unfaithful. He grew fonder for Lucy because of Hyde's interactions with her, interestingly enough, because it was still HIM. I love this work so much. I would love to understand why he killed her, though.

She knew he's the good guy type, and wanted to test him and see if he was just acting or not. She never intended to actually "romance" at him, only wanted to see how far his 'nice act' goes, _if it was real_ .. this wasn't even about Hyde, it was about her seeing if there are still good normal people out there, in the dangerous streets.. that's why at the end, she sees he's not just _'faking it'_ she just wants to befriend him (as she even says) because she trusts people like him (non-"fake")

That girl walks singing in a ways that just get's me both in anastalgic memorised vibe as well as a I ship it vibe. Don't hate me I don't know enough about his fiance to care realy. I mean yeah a man needs to be loyal to his lover and spouse but how am I to know what sort of woman his fiance his future wife is or if she's better for him or what?
