Actually, you’ve got the wrong moleskine sketchbook! The ones I get are hard cover and they’re called “Moleskine Art Sketchbook.” You can get it A4, A5, or pocket sized! I use all media in mine except for pastels, because you’re right, the smooth texture doesn’t grab the pigment nicely. But! I LOVE to use gouache and watercolor in it! Yes, it does warp, but not as much as the sketch album! I’m not sure why they’re made differently, I’m assuming the sketch album is made to be some sort of portfolio? But! The Moleskine Art Sketchbook you can find on Amazon quite easily. It’s a little pricey, but for me it is worth it. A great alternative to it since I’ve heard in your previous video you don’t like the yellow paper, is the Leuchtturm 1917 A5 sketchbook. Qualities are similar, but the Leuchtturm has white paper, more pages, and comes in more sizes than the Moleskine. Hope this helps for you fellow artists! ❤️❤️

If you want to store the watercolor stick, you can cut it to the length of a empty half pan and put it in there, it fits perfectly, I haven’t tried it, because I don’t have any spare half pans, but I saw it in a video. Hope this helps!

I enjoyed the video, but can understand, that you don't wanna make videos about those boxes anymore. I'm looking forward for the sketchbooktour! You mentioned, you are interessted in studying cats. There are some breeds like for example the Spynx cat, who have little to no fur, where you can see, what goes where. Love your videos, I'm glad you are back to making them again. :)

I COMPLETELY agree about Moleskine being overpriced for what it is. The only expensive sketchbook I invest in anymore is the Etchr perfect sketchbook or the Strathmore mixed media. Both of those are wonderful since I’m mixed media. Moleskine is great for pencil and some fine liners but I couldn’t use it fast enough....

This is not the Moleskin Art Plus Sketchbook - it‘s the Sketch Album with thinner paper. If you want to try the acrual sketchbook, buy the hardcover Art Plus Sketchbook with thicker paper. I use it with gouache and all kinds of supplies all the time. I even gesso pages and pInt with acrylic in it. I love these books very much.

Because (1) it's going to be a long time and lot of work before you properly like your own art, especially in comparison to an art youtuber's. And (2) there are some really easy things you can do to spruce up your sketches to make the overall page look nice, such as outlining with a thick marker and/or a white gelpen, filling in the background with a solid color or drawing a colorful shape behind your art, and (my personal favorite) going back to finish and polish your favorite sketch on each page of your sketchbook, even if you don't like it at first. You'd be amazed at how much you can fix with your lining and colorwork, even if the initial sketch isn't great. It won't suddenly be perfect, but it will have reached closer to its real potential and you might discover that actually it's not as bad as you thought. Plus you'll be practicing your line and colorwork as much as your sketching, so you'll be less likely to mess up a sketch you *do* like when you go forward to the next steps.

Hi 👋 lovely unboxings 😊 it’s possible to cut the watercolor crayons up - then it’s easier for using with brushes Love seeing the supplies being used - I don’t know if you can get the Artway sketchbooks where you live but in the last few months I’ve found them on Amazon and the paper Is way better (I found) for more variety of media and the price (in Europe in €6,99) for about 65 pages + you may like it too and thought I’d share the idea with you 😊 Choose the next sketchbook idea sounds fun 🤩

the watercolor stick you weren't sure what to do with would have been PERFECT for that thin paper. put down a layer of that, then wipe this layer with a wipe or damp paper towel...it will make a smooth wash of color without warping. this layer is waxy afterwards, so not great for most pens, but markers and colored pencils will go on top nicely...paint (posca) pens too LOVE your work and your video style...thank you for much inspiration

I also like to paint on cheap sketchbook paper with watercolor. I think the trick is to understand that you cannot put too much water on it. So I just don't do that. I plan ahead with the colors and I always wait until one layer is completely dry. You can have very good looking art on cheap paper if you keep these rules. When you put too much water on it it simply doesn't look good anymore.

You have way more self control than me - I can't wait to get my subscription box (ScrawlrBox) open, usually doing it while eating my breakfast! 😁 I think a lot of subscription boxes have struggled to avoid a certain amount of duplication due to the pandemic making it difficult to get supplies. I can't get away with chisel tip pens, they frustrate me so much! 😂 I like sword brushes, though. 😊 Have you tried Pink Pig sketch books? I first started using those at University and I've loved them ever since. 😊 I like the way you draw cats. 😊

interesting hearing your thoughts on moleskine sketchbooks! I personally use the 5x8.25 moleskine art sketchbook and I use a decent amount of mixed media. watercolor does kinda soak weird on it and leaves a grainy texture but it personally doesn’t bother me much as it’s not like I do finished pieces in it. haven’t had much trouble with gouache tho but I don’t water it down too much so that’s probably why. this sketchbook isn’t marketed for wet media anyway so ig I didn’t expect it to work magically with met mediums xD but I haven’t tried the sketchbooks specifically made for watercolor so I can’t say how good those are! the one I have is a smidge too long vertically for my liking but I like the thicc off-white paper :D I have yet to find the perfect mixed media sketchbook o_O edit: I think it's this sketchbook pad in specific? I'm pretty sure that's why it doesn't hold up mixed media too well because the paper is only 81lb

probably what Can't Function said, the paper. markers look different depending on what kind of paper you use (which is why pple swatch on the same paper they're going to draw on instead of swatch sheets), but unless it's super dark idk lolol

I think I may know why you're having issues with Moleskine despite them being such a popular choice of sketchbook. This is just a guess, of course, but hear me out. Moleskine sketchbooks aren't greatly differentiated in their packaging, especially if you don't know what to look for. Here's three links to different Moleskine books: (1:) www.deserres.ca/en/48-page-pocket-sketch-pad-black (2:) www.deserres.ca/en/medium-sketchbook-black-hard-cover (3:) www.deserres.ca/en/large-watercolour-notebook-black-hardcover Looking at these at a glance, they all look like they could be from the same series. However, the 3rd is specifically for watercolour, the 2nd is my personal favourite (a good, multipurpose paper suitable for mixed media), and the 1st is one I have never used before because the paper is too light for the media I use. In terms of paper weight, it's right there on the covers: the first is 81 lb, the second 111lb, and the third 135lb. I think your problem may be that you have a book with the 81 lb sketch pad paper instead of something a bit heavier like the 111lb. To compare, Canson xl watercolour pads have a paper weight of 140lb. I have a Borden/Riley marker paper pad with a weight of 108lb. And some Canson (pencil) sketch paper that I find incredibly thin is 50 lb. To summarize all that, the paper of the popular art sketchbooks (111lb) is much closer to a watercolour or marker paper than Moleskine sketch pads are. That's the type I use and I haven't encountered the same problems you're having. *PERSONAL REVIEW* This is of the book from the second link. I mostly used water based media, like ink, watercolour, acrylic, and gouache, as well as alcohol markers and pencil crayons. Cons: 1. Alcohol markers bleed through after a single layer usually, unless the layer is very light. This sucks if you're like me and like using both sides of the paper. However I'll usually just use an opaque medium on the other side which negates the problem. 2. The paper will buckles slightly under heavier layers of watercolour. However it'll usually flatten out somewhat after a while. And this only happens if you soak the whole page in a wash. 3. The masking fluids I've tried have always roughed up the page too much to use anything overtop. The pages cannot handle most masking fluid. 4. I find I'm able to do less layers of gouache than on watercolour-specific paper, I think the Moleskine paper is less absorbent and has less grip because it's smooth. I also think this makes it take a little longer for watercolour to fully dry. Pros: I've never had issues with water-based media bleeding through the page. Whether it was pages with multiple washes of watercolour, or multiple (opaque, black) layers of ink, or layers of water-based markers... It never bleeds unless you're really rubbing and overworking the paper. And although it isn't quite as nice as an actual watercolour paper, the paint still applies fine. If you'e be using lots of watercolour the watercolour sketchbook would be a better fit, the only reason I don't use that one as my main sketchbook is because it has texture, which is a hindrance for when I'm trying to use dry media in the same book. At the same time, if Moleskine just isn't a brand you like, there's no point in trying to force yourself to like it. Something like a Strathmore mixed media pad, or any number of other sketchbooks may be a better fit. Whatever you find works best. Sorry for this essay, but I hope this helps! PS; I don't know why anyone uses the thin Moleskine notepads at the price they're at. For people who really like journalling, I guess? But I rewatched when you talked about your sketchbook and I definitely think you have the 81lb paper (or something even lighter-- they make tons of notepads that aren't even meant for drawing at all)

I do love your videos, but if you decide to leave the subscription box reviews behind to free you up for projects you find more interesting, then more power to you. You are not a beginner, or intermediate anymore - you have an art degree, exceptional talent, and a great work ethic as well as a legitimate work process that makes you prolific. So find projects worthy of someone at your level, worthy of you talent and passion, and do something great. And maybe let us watch over your shoulder, and if not, that is ok too.
