I dont think saying it "ruined" the 80's cartoon is to be taking literally. Like i know as a fan of the 80's series n growing up with it, hearing that the movie was being made got me so excited. But then to find out they made a crap.movie that's not based on what we grew up on ruined my hopes for enjoying it and hopes of seeing what I enjoyed as a child come to life ruined. I think it's the idea that we're in an age where properties from the past can be cinemized, but the fact that marketing strategy determines the way a property will be handled is messing things up royally. GI Joe has its way, but marketing determined another and so forth and so on.

in the cartoon, Jem was Jerrica Benton's, head of the record company Starlight Music, rock star persona. She became Jem by using micro hologram projectors in the form of earrings. These projectors were part of a larger AI system called "Synergy", a program created by her father that could create realistic holograms.

Here it looks like they took the script to the Josie and the Pussycats movie, took away the (somewhat funny) "subliminal messages" plot and slapped the Jem name on it. really?!! why?! TT_TT they changed so much of the original story, it would be like if they changed batman' s origin from being about a Billionaire who loses his parents as a kid and becomes a super hero as a adult. To a teenage kid in high school that decides to become a detective to impress a girl and gets help from a cellphone his grandpa left him. it has nothing to do with the original story anymore, they are not even that same characters. that's what they did with this movie.

What is wrong with these people?? If they say they're going to do a movie based on a series then they should follow through. They need to do more than just the names of the characters!!! I mean seriously, this was a great show with amazing and inspiring storylines AND characters and they just chopped and mixed it all up in a blender and came out with this sorry excuse for a movie. I know this is Hollywood and we can't always expect so much but still. They couldn't follow the show word for word but they could at least make the effort and stick to the plot line to begin with.

But I do like that they basically showed the entire crappy film in this trailer, it means the studio doesn't have much faith in it. Hope it flops and they learn not to fuck with 80s pop culture unless they have the balls to do it faithfully.

Looks like they made some changes from the original trailer after all the bad feedback. I still have no interest in this movie, but really would have gone for a real Jem and Holograms movie. They could have updated and kept a lot of the originality. They should have consulted with the original creator instead of having a few know-nothing frat boys making a movie like this.
