What happens when a load gets rejected is often something I get asked. And this is an example of what can happen.

Just ran across your page. The trucking business is not that much different hear in the states. The trucks themselves are much different here. The driver is always the last one to get paid and does all the long hours. 46 years of over the road. Be safe out there and hello from Oklahoma.

Every transport company I've ever used charges a very hefty premium if you get a load rejected so they don't lose out.

Jemma ask for a raise. A friend of mine works for a haulage firm in Harlow. The last time we spoke his company had given him and the other drivers a substantial raise as they were afraid of them being poached by rivals. It’s very hard to get good drivers like you and trustworthy as well.

I really enjoy your content. I drove fridges and curtainsiders for a long time until I gave it up about 8 years ago in exchange for a guaranteed 37 hrs a week in a nice clean office, without having to worry about some of the awful people you come across that can ruin a wagon drivers day!! HOWEVER!!! - I see the positive sides of the job in your videos so often that I really wonder sometimes if I did the right thing. There again, being home every night is something my missus loves, so no more life of a tramper for me!

I'm now officially a newbie to the channel, watched a couple of random clips to see how you cover things. You do a good easy to watch and listen to clip, one thing I saw here was you putting the tractor units rego on the trailer, that seemed odd. I'm not a driver but thanks to our LPR camera at work I know the trailer units have different plates from the tractor units, I've clicked the bell so see whats next.

nope in Europe most companies pay hourly rate, that way the driver can count on his pay with regards to how many hours he/ she works. also there is no need to try to cheat the electronic log.

As a kid I grew up on a small dairy in Colorado and my dad and grandpa were the last to haul their own milk into the pasteurization dairy in town, and they didn’t like it. So what they did to force our hand was make my dad wait several hours in the sun until the temperature rose above what they’d accept. Then they rejected it,dad came home and we dumped several thousand gallons of milk down the driveway. On his birthday. So we quit hauling our own milk, got a new bulk tank system and hired their truck. The added expense of new infrastructure and missing a couple,e days of milk revenue.

Most long distance drivers down here in Australia are paid by the kilometre. And some of us can do over 1000 kms in a day. We can work up to 14 hours in a 24 hour period and the speed limit for trucks 100 km/h.

The other issue for carriers ( of all kinds) is getting paid by clients. Some love to drag it out, but this is a big issue, especially for cashflow. The margins are really tight; it only takes an unplanned event such as a layover at a depot that can make or break a company.

Rejected loads always a pain, i sat in germany once for a day and a half with a load of frozen peas, which were aparently to big when they sampled them by putting a handful through a stainless plate with pea sized holes in it, whens the last time you refused to eat a garden pea because it was to big ?, also had bulk loads of potatoes rejected by one shift, waited for shift change and gone back in and tipped no problems , frozen intervention meat was always dodgy to, load out of germany get to dover and port health/customs rejected it, then have to take it back to where you collected it from , i can remember those loads now (45 years ago)Happy xmas jemma.

In other bulk transport markets for instance, marine vessels, time overages are charged to the chartering customer. Known as demurrage, this protects the hauler from delays beyond their control. I assume truck haulage does not have this in the contracts as standard?
