Had this saved to my "watch later" due to a busy week. SOOOOO glad I did/am now watching this. Lawrence O'Donnell is in my opinion, the BEST out there and he has zero problem highlighting other's accomplishments, other's intelligence and professionalism and expertise.......and yes, he's correct: Jen Psaki was the greatest press secretary we've had.

Now have to wait to read even though I also want to watch the whole hour. I do not watch television, don't even own one. I believe it’s perfectly wonderful to lay in bed with your kids at night and have conversations. I did this with my kids until I think my son was 14 years old. When the parent gets to spend that special alone time with their child, that’s all that matters. They remember it to this day and I believe they’re well adjusted children because of it.

Very much appreciated. Thanks to you both from New Zealand, where I now reside as an American buried by questions from Kiwis asking me to explain the infantile, contradictory, hypocritical nature of the place, the racial divide and economic disparity, the gender inequality (New Zealand had brought fourth a woman’s right to vote way before America), the ever expansive and often diabolical nature of its use of the military, the declining lifespan, poor educational opportunities, the religious absurdities bordering always on cultish behaviour, the lack of general civic understanding and declining responsibility towards the purpose of such and the unwavering use of a disproportionate amount of global resources without accountability, frankly, I’m exhausted. Now add to that, an attempt to explain why an ex-president twice impeached, four times indicted, in court on nearly ninety felony counts is falling asleep during the proceedings and a Supreme Court judge has his American flag flying upside down apparently in sympathy with insurgents who’ve committed treason leads me to wonder if I should direct them to both of you, who are far more qualified to articulate the issues, explain the historical context more fully while giving the listener some tools with which to navigate the next decade? Indeed, and you get paid! My narratives are of considerably less quality, not nearly as inspirational, lack journalistic credentials and receive no remuneration. So thanks, or as they say more likely from here; cheers!
@privateperson48426 ай бұрын
I agree! Also, that the democratic party is wanting to shore-up soc sec, unions, quality health care & public education; make it easier to vote; oversight on private prisons; separation of church(es) and state; they acknowlege that there are many reasons that abortions are needed and neccesary and that a governmental commottee shouldn't be the ones deciding her fate. Democrats have more of a 'live and let live' approach to society, believing that if someone is gay and wants to be married, they should have that right. One would think only the company CEO's would vote for republicans. Democrats also respect science and scientists and know that climate change due to (human-caused) global warming is at a crisis level. 🌊for the 🌎

@@beverlywatson885 I do love it here. I’ve been here now for quite some time. I was made aware rather early on of the influence American culture had on New Zealanders, both bad and good. There’s considerable evidence that the more politically cynical aspects of American media has unfortunately been penetrating the New Zealand political as well as social sensibilities and I find that worrisome. Perhaps I overreact and critical thinking will prevail.

I'm a huge fan of Joe Biden - from South Africa. Often I wonder why Americans don't recognise him as certainly the finest American President of my lifetime. In an interview with Jen some months ago, she spoke of how much she loved working as Press Secretary for the Biden Administration. Jen gave severally reasons but concluded at the end by saying how she always knew how much President Biden appreciated her, and truly cared for her. I loved that story. And I always love listening to Jen. Smart. Polished. Real.

Another West Wing moment. I worked at the Congressional Research Service for a number of years while the show aired. In one episode, a Senator was engaged in an old-fashioned filibuster on the Senate floor. There followed a convoluted series of procedural moves to get to the end result desired. The next day, our senior Senate expert met with a group of Senate staffers on some unrelated subject, but all they wanted to know was, "Could they actually do that for real?" He answered, "Yes, they got it right." The show wasn't entertainment. On so many levels, it was civics disguised as entertainment.

12 weeks of maternity leave??? In Canada we get up to 18 months.
@donttrudd23104 ай бұрын
Actually, few jobs give women maternity leave in the US, and it's getting worse, not better. At the same time, abortions - even to save the life of the mother- even if the fetus is dead inside the woman - is illegal in some states. At the same time, it's illegal to take medication to prevent pregnancy. Basically, the conservative idea is that women should not be allowed to work or vote.
