Also the fact he knows everything else *can* be killed, doesn't mean he can just do it. See (highranking) Demons, Angels, Archangels, God himself. Everyone of them could kill him with a snap of their fingers and yet that never stopped Dean to play it cool and get snarky. Death was the only one he was afraid of from start to finish and in the very rare times some snark slipped out of his mouth (tongue being faster than the brain) you could immediately see the realization and regret of what he just said in his eyes, swiftly followed by a fearful look at Death as he started to stumble a excuse.

Or you can't have one without the other, and even if you have the reapers, it's not the same as dead. I loved how they didn't portray him as inherently good or evil. He was morally grey in a way. He didn't care about humans, but he still took them. He didn't act scary or all powerful but with one look or word or even gesture he commanded attention. Whether it be out of fear, awe or just curiosity everyone always noticed him. The symbolism in that is that sooner or later everyone experiences death. It's what made him such a character to love because his portrayal of something so permanent was amazing.

I think they don't really know how to escalate with the villains and conflicts on the show... there was just something so chilling about having a being this old and powerful, who would reap God himself at the end of all things. killing him killed some of that mystery and horror.

On my life, I saw the EXACT double of the guy who played Death, once (if it wasn't the actor - or maybe the real thing...). It was at the Mark Twain House in Hartford, CT. Dude was creepy as all hell. All he ever did was grin at me, but it was the most 'yes, I AM who you think I am,' look I've ever seen. And no one else noticed him, the whole tour. He didn't say a word, and no one but me and my mom even acknowledged that he was there. It was spooky as hell

It’s crazy how the first one felt like a man giving a haunting reflection whereas this version gives off a sort of Cult-y vibe, as if they took the message of a man fearing death as a concept and twisted it into this version to sound like they’re singing about death as less of a state of being and more of the personification of Death as The Grim Reaper. Almost in reverence/deference or even a form of worship.

Best character introduction in any media. He makes you feel small and insignificant. So much that he wouldn't even consider killing you. Because next to him, you are. Even as a viewer, he gives you that fear. Not an "oh shit I'm gonna die" fear but a fear that comes from knowing that this is a being you will never comprehend, that makes it clear, that you are inconsequential to him or the universe. That he was the first to be, and he will be the last.
