We met some professional pogoers (yeah, we didn't know it was a thing either) and showed them NYC's most famous spots to see what they could do at 'em. Enjoy, write a scathing review, laugh, cry, feel something! And don’t worry, we’ll go back to skateboarding shortly.

@@ArnoldoIbarra-f5s I'm obsessed with the fact that they ride skateboards between spots. It makes total sense and is obviously the perfect mode of transportation for them, but it's also simultaneously goofy as hell and a really poetic overlap with the sport that their culture has its roots in.

As a skater of 15 years I appreciate how Nico’s mindset is similar to skating when he’s talking about how it’s hard to let a trick go when you’re feeling it. But sometimes you gotta take the land because it’s so easy to forget all the nuances of what you’re doing
@devinkk
@devinkk Ай бұрын
I interpreted it as "I already did the amazing trick...but now I have an artificial boost/adrenaline high and I wanna go harder" that's why he called it a result of ego. I don't know how much skaters do that...like right after Tony Hawk did the 900, he didn't go back and then try to do a 1080 and then bust his head open. After Don Nguyen b*mbed Baxter he didn't immediately get up and then try to do a tre flip into it
@VeritableSmorgasbord
@VeritableSmorgasbord 22 күн бұрын
“Forget the nuances”...can you explain that? Reminds me of: There was a pro motocrosser Josh Hill who derailed his racing career around 2011 messing around with backflips. Seems like he landed one and then went back for another and bailed from high up. My armchair hypothesis was always that until your movements are total muscle memory, you should only come out of the foam pit for one attempt at a time, then pass or fail return to it to re-trace the movements over again to make sure your muscles know what they’re supposed to do. (Maybe not muscles only; it could’ve been a nervous system thing where he panicked.) If you were learning a high risk trick yesterday, it’s intuitive that you’re not gonna wake up this morning and step outside and just bust it out like nothing. You’re gonna want to warm up and go through the movements in the foam pit again. But the same might be true of even a five minute gap. Until you got that muscle memory, you can’t assume you won’t freeze up. Hmm...do pogo guys use foam pits?

At first the interviews sound like something from Portlandia or Documentary Now, but then it shows the footage and it's mind blowing how high in the air and how precise the landings are and you realize you've been sucked in to something wonderful. It reminds me of the BuldozLife KZbin channel for urban skiing tricks where in the early internet days it would be almost just a meme-worthy laugh but with these well put together videos you end up having mad respect for both the creativity and the talent involved in these fringe outsider type sports. Bravo.

I used to compete in trampolining & gymnastics, and there's nothing like that floaty feeling at the top of a jump, hanging several metres up in mid-air. There’s also nothing like the feeling of missing a landing from that height! Growing up, I had many-a-chat with my mechanically-inclined dad about beefed-up pogo sticks & alternatives to springs… he would have loved these. And absolute respect for the skills on display too, sticking those landings on a point smaller than the palm of your hand is pure insanity. 🤘

Honestly, looks pretty fun, but fucking gnarly tbh, every trick is from a height that's turning your head into soup

Crazy sport. As a former skateboarder, pogo seems way more dangerous simply because it looks harder to bail properly. Not to mention if your feet slip that pogo stick handle is going right into your face or chest

Those pogo sticks are insane. As someone who did parkour for 15 years, i bet i could bust some flips on it

A Supreme pogo stick would cost 10,000$ and would look like the food. Wait? Is that where they got the name?!? 🤔
