@@TheOfficialCzureit is not easy to make connection between someone who is clueless about dota and dota given the complexity of the latter. His chess analogy was quite smart. Think about it, what else could he say beyond the fighting between teams, everyone gets his own "piece" which does a lot, killing enemy base wins the game. I do not think there is a few word explanation why dota is so addictive.

@@TheOfficialCzure Name one comparison that is complex like Dota other than Chess? The point is that Chess is a very complex game with different outcomes on each move you make, same thing as Dota.
@Waywardway3

@@TheOfficialCzure I think the Chess Analogy is quite apt, I get why the interviewer wanted him to stray away from it because aesthetically the two comparisons aren't similar, but the objective (to seige the other sides throne/king) is the same, so it really is the closest analogy you can make to explain to a normie what Dota 2 is, and after all, this interview was meant for normies and not gamers.

It's a fantasy novel, where you get into various states of existential crisis from all the insults thrown at you by your team mates, and you have to endure that for an hour at least. The true mission of a game of DoTA 2 is learning to become stoic whilst in the company of people you dislike and that dislike you and somehow pull off a victory together. If you manage to make friends in those conditions, you made friends for life. It's a true example of art imitating life. Oh yeah, there's also an opposing team trying to end you at every corner, but that's a side quest.

I would say, it is much like all other sports. Like Rugby, there are many players doing different jobs, for one goal. The situation, positions, and what happens will always be different and is controlled by peoples actions(thoughts), just like any sport. So the games and rules remain the same, but millions of different outcomes can happen. and that is why it will always be played and entertaining to watch. just like any other sports. Dota 4 life

Great job, though it did sound like he was coming up with answers off the cuff rather than prepared, and normally the interviewer will give them some heads up about questions. 😅 I like the chess comparison, but I've always likened it to Chess mashed with (American) football, or basketball. It helps highlight the team angle, pushing toward goals on opposite ends of the map, and how much positioning and communication is so important to making plays, in addition to it being real time. Also, easiest esport for someone to get into has to be Rocket League, hands down. Especially considering football/soccer is the most popular game in the world, it's really easy for people to understand "Oh, its football with cars. And the cars have jetpacks." BOOM, no further explanation needed. It's also very obvious, just at a glance, how technical and difficult the plays are even with no further knowledge of the game.

From the laning stages/harassing to trading towers/objectives. Dota is similar to chess in this regard too. Most of the times ure just trading things. Only if u can trade better than the enemy u win.

The better analogy would be it is like basketball but rather than whichever team scores the most point wins, it is whichever scores 500 points first wins, and everybody gets their own balls and there are three hoops on each side of the court. Also, you get to box with players from the other team so you put them out of commission for a minute or two, which gives you the chance to score points without resistance.
