The picky eater one hits close to home for me too. I'm super picky! I'm American and don't like most foods that aren't popular in America, even many that are. I had a Vietnamese boyfriend and his family got together often to eat. I wasn't comfortable with the food they made, so I brought my own meal and was still included. I think they were disappointed as they wanted to share, but that's all. It wasn't a huge fight or anything.
@notme86062 жыл бұрын
@@cryfly1 the point isn't that picky eaters CAN'T eat something it's that they don't WANT to and no one should have to do things they don't want to do if there's a better option. Of course if someone is starving and the only thing available is something they don't like then yeah it'd be dumb not to eat it but that isn't the case most times. Like good for you for being able to eat foods you don't like but you shouldn't try to force that mindset on others. /nm
@notme86062 жыл бұрын
@Cry Fly I'm sorry that you've grown up to think this way, but it's simply not true. Not eating someone's food is not disrespectful, and it's honestly a very old and outdated opinion. As someone who is a cook AND a picky eater I would never be offended if I made something for someone and they said "I'm sorry but I can't eat this because I don't like *xyz*" in fact I would never cook/buy something without asking the person if they liked it because THAT is self centered. Today, I went to a Thanksgiving party where multiple people brought different dishes, and none of them got upset with me when I declined their food. A compromise isn't doing something you don't want to do. A compromise is an agreement with both sides making concessions. It is not bratty to politely decline something, and it's definitely not childish in fact, I think the opposite. I get that we've been socially programmed that we should take what we're dished, but it's honestly a harmful narrative that leads to a lot of uncomfortable situations on both parts. Again, I'd hate it if I cooked something for someone, and they told me afterwards that they disliked it. It would make me feel like I've created an unsafe environment where they feel like they can't openly express their feelings without fear of my reaction. Also, the fact that you keep comparing "not wanting to do something" to a child is very weird, in my opinion, and honestly, it is very egotistical/conceited. An adult's opinion is in no way superior than a child, especially when it comes to such mundane things as what you choose to eat. I'm not going to cook meat and expect a vegetarian to eat it, I'm not going to cook gluten and expect someone who doesn't eat gluten to eat it, and I'm not going to cook cilantro and expect someone who hates cilantro to eat it because I care about my guests and as a cook I should be asking before doing (as you should with most things tbh). In no way would I think down on anyone for their preferred eating habits, and I don't think anyone else should either. So while you maybe didn't say "you should eat foods you don't like" you definitely implied it by asking, "You know you can, right?" ( btw, not to nitpick, is very condescending wording), which is why I decided to respond. Talking about your feelings and boundaries is not childish in fact its very mature, sorry. /nm
@notme86062 жыл бұрын
@Cry Fly You do not know me. Not once did I make an assumption on how you grew up, and yet you did that to me. But since you assumed my background, I'll tell you it. I grew up poor, and my family struggled to make ends meet most of the time. My mom was a drug addict and we were basically hopping from place to place. When I was 8, the house we were basically squatting in burned down in a fire, and we lost everything. We were then homeless. We completely relied on gifted food/food banks to live. I didn't have access to water 24/7. I am an adult now, and we are just now at a place where we aren't completely struggling 24/7. So please do not try to say "you're privileged you don't understand". I have multiple disabilities, mental and physical, as does everyone in my family. We have had to walk hours to get medicine for my sister who has seizures. My body does not tell me when I'm hungry/full because food was so scarce that my brain did not develop that connection properly. I have never once thought the world revolved around me in fact, I've struggled with suicidal thoughts since I was 12 and have tried to attempt multiple times. When I said I'm a cook I meant I enjoy cooking for people not that I am a rich person who works at a restaurant. But none of that matters because not once did I say "everyone has access to whatever foods they want". Like I said previously, unless you do not have any other options, you CAN choose what to eat and what not to eat because it is your life and you deserve to be able to live it how you want to as much as you are able to without people like you guilting others into doing things they dont want. Of course I know people who get their feelings hurt when people don't eat their food, those people are childish, sorry, as someone whos gotten hurt from that before I can say that I just matured and got over it. I'm someone who will spend a whole day cooking food for people just because I want to and I don't expect them to eat everything, if I did I'd be the selfish/childish one. Also please do not preach to me about what Thanksgiving is about, I am Native American and do not need to be told to be thankful for what I have, it is a day of mourning and celebration of my people. You are not special or above other people just because you force yourself to do things you don't like, just like I am not special or above you. If you think someone bringing their own lunch because they prefer to eat their food is childish, then I'm sorry, but you are childish. I'm sorry to hear about your background, no one should ever have to go through that, but your background does not make you better than anyone in this case. I don't think I'm going to continue this conversation, seeing as you keep using very abrasive language/wording, and after I pointed out that you sound condescending, you doubled down?? Lol okay, but I hope you have a life you deserve and hope that maybe in the future you won't try to inforce your person opinions onto others :) /gen /nm (also happy holidays idk what you celebrate or if you even celebrate anything but still!! )

@birdie7910Ай бұрын
Nah they're the asshole. I went through many surgeries and as much as I was stressed out. Hearing about other ppl's problems helped me a lot bc I felt like the world wasn't stopping for me. Everyone is different which is why it's important to communicate that you are not the type of person to be talking about friend breakups. They are the asshole for yelling at their friend instead of being respectful because at the end of the day, amputated person felt like they weren't taking her seriously and didn't understand the situation. The friend felt the same way with a different situation. Could've been resolved with communication. Everyone is different and everyone has different needs. I prefer to put my focus on other ppl when i'm sick and you, just like the girl in the post, like the opposite. Both very valid but it's up to YOU to tell ppl. Some prefer making jokes and make light of their own situations while some like to discuss the severity of it. YOU have the responsibility to share what you prefer. "Hey i'm going through this and i'd rather we not joke about it or bla bla bla" obviously if they keep going that's on them but in that situation it was a one time thing. She yelled, the friend left.

for the brothers and the wedding i think he wasn’t the asshole because his brother and his cheating ex got married. it’s a constant reminder. if he is going to be paying for half the wedding, then he gets a say on who is invited or not. in my opinion, i would respect my father’s boundaries because he is my father. my father comes before my uncle.
@brissarodriguez48402 жыл бұрын
although, i do think he could’ve gone and maybe avoided them? but he would still see his brother and the girl be happy and he might feel sad or angry. and who knows what could’ve happened if he went. Maybe the dad would’ve gotten too drunk and started problems at the wedding, and in the end would take the attention away from his daughter.
@mymelody9966 Жыл бұрын
i dont think the fact he pays for the wedding means he gets to have a say in that. it's a cultural thing, you pay because you love your daughter, not because you want to have some kind of control over the wedding planning. that's just weird. he's an adult man that definitely could have just avoided them for one day for his daughters sake
@matheusd1236 ай бұрын
exactly, and the daughter literally built a relationship with the uncle in secret for years and close to the wedding wanted her father's understanding? the daughter is the asshole 100%, or at least have the knowlege that if your uncle is coming your dad won't go. imagine being betrayed by your brother and having to deal with that for the rest of your life, and then being betrayed by your own daughter that coudn't even be honest with you for years.

That dude with the Thanksgiving story about his wife not eating his mother's cooking is DEFINITELY the asshole and his wife should not be his wife.. what if she has allergies or stomach problems or sensory issues like food textures. Her compromise was very mature and thoughtful and he was very rude and not willing to compromise with her. It's okay to not like certain foods and not wanting to eat them. It's so stupid when people are so hurt by others' food preferences. It's not personal??? what's the issue?? EDIT: And his update was very immature and childish.. he is no husband that any woman should have to deal with. Hoping she leaves him for his behavior.

@MadisonM12 жыл бұрын
I think with the picky eater thing she could have brought food she herself would eat, but enough for others to have someone. That way it doesn’t seem like a clear disrespect to the mom, but just her contributing and making sure she has food to eat. I understand not wanting to offend the one cooking for everyone, but the fact that he didn’t defend her in the first place about the food issue and then didn’t appreciate her compromise…And then he told her not to come which is unnecessary and hurtful and literally choosing sides. I could understand him saying things he doesn’t mean but then after that you tuck your tail between your legs and apologize and beg your wife to spend it with your family because you want her there.

Honestly the computer story really pissed me off. Why should op have to suffer when it was her little 💩 of a cousin that ruined her computer in the first place? Both the mom and the aunt/uncle suck. The mom sucks for letting the cousin use OP’s work computer unsupervised and the aunt and uncle suck for potentially not punishing their brat for ruining OP’s computer
