You need a 50c diode on the tail and head light circuit. As you said because it is Ac current flows in both directions through both wires. A diode will prevent it from going through the flasher to the other lights. I don't believe it is a power issue as everything is so bright. I have also had this problem on British cars with a bad ground. Cars with pop up headlights have a habit of winking when turning a corner. One person stated you could put a rectifier and a battery in. I think you could get away with just a rectifier one out of a boat outboard motor would work fine. Or you can make one with four diodes just google diode bridge rectifier. This will essentially make it a dc system.

“Pixies!” An AvE watcher too! First thing is to get a bridge rectum-fryer to get those pixies going one way only (dc). Then run them pixies into a super cap or a small gell battery tucked up under the seat somewhere. That will give you plenty of electrocity to let those blinkers work like they should.

I kind of figured that was going to happen, looks like you need a battery or capacitor. You can use a bridge rectifier to convert the ac to dc power, add a diode, connect to a super cap and that should solve your problems :)
@s.moorefilms37607 жыл бұрын
Experimental Fun what would the super cap be for? I'm not stalikng you by the way.
@ExperimentalFun7 жыл бұрын
lol, the super capacitor functions similar to a battery, it will provide extra power so the lights wont blink. he doesn't really need a battery because its not electric start so using a super cap will be smaller and easier.
@s.moorefilms37607 жыл бұрын
Experimental Fun But doesn't it require the same amount of power to charge the capacitor?
@ExperimentalFun7 жыл бұрын
It will balance everything out, the capacitor will charge when the blinkers go off and discharge when they blink on.

Remember to keep your total power consumption under 25w. The stator for that bike only has a 25w rating. They do make a aftermarket 50w stator for street legal upgrade kits. You can buy a street legal kit for $210. It'd be a lot easier to do. Oh yeah, when determining your power consumption. Remember to add power consumption values for your coil and, if you have them, your power reeds. You should upgrade to LEDs and maybe a voltage regulator and a small battery/capacitor to keep the lights from flashing during voltage spikes and drains. The kits online has all that in it.

Coming together nicely my friend. As others have stated, I can assume that you're stator isn't up to the task of keeping up with the extra amperage/wattage you're asking of it. The the upgraded stator should do it (I'd think at least). There's some loss of efficiency with a flasher as well because it has to heat up a bi-metallic strip of metal that opens the circuit as it heats with current and cools and reconnects. I'm sure you know all this stuff man. Just wanted to add my piece.

I’m going to recommend an aluminum plate under the brake light where it’s close to the plastic. It will reflect light better. The lights are HID halogen and get extremely hot. Since your running lights are always on, it should be noted that plastic and sustained heat do not mix.

It my birthday and a new KDX video I couldn't ask for anything more...
@Bonno460xvr7 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend putting in a Ricks stator and up the capacity of your stator. The stock system is calibrated to use all of the stator output to run the tail light and head light. When adding a extra filament your adding more request for power from the stator. Another option is going LED which uses less power but you have to use a rectifier as the kdx using AC 12v not DC like cars. My kdx I went with AC so no leds and just put ricks stator on. I ran into additional work tho on a side note, when replacing my stator I noticed I had a leaky main/crank seal so it was a big job for me because of unforeseen issues so I split my crank and replaced the seal as well.
@Bonno460xvr7 жыл бұрын
Just look up the stock output of the stator. Add up the stock watts of the 40watt(if I remember right) head light and add the tail light. Then figure the addition to a second filament and you mentioned a hi and low beam headlight which adds more power demand. As I was typing you mentioned a horn. That’s more power. Get a higher output stator or rewind yours with thicker electric motor wire. It’s pretty easy

May sound silly, but it could possibly be that you’ve earthed you’re indicators (flashers, blinkers, I’m not sure what they’re called I’m from the uk haha), to the frame, which you’re lights will also be earthed to, like you said it’s ac, so it’s very possible you’re earths have become live and this could Be why everything flashes, atleast that was the case on my Derbi senda, hope this helps mate, keep Up all the good work you Two!!

@MikeMalkowski7 жыл бұрын
Don't ground your blinkers to the frame, hook the ground back to the switch maybe. And put the blinker in that lone loop. You have to separate that circuit from the rest of the electric.... Which I don't know that you can actually do in a AC system. You might have to run a rectifier to power the lights with DC.
@j7639-z4f7 жыл бұрын
This is a top channel on youtube...how many times I've said this, I don't remember...but man keep it up. Awesome duo. And for the blinker/flasher, unfortunately you will need a battery or a supercapacitor to retain enough energy for the flashers and for lights. That's because all 3 components - high/low beam, flasher/blinkers, *and the relay* - use a lot of power. That's right, the relay itself consumes some good power too. So adding LEDs will not help. It will just blink/flash faster.

Everything flashing is usually a grounding problem, might not be the individual lights, but somewhere at the generator. Could also be the fact that you dont have a battery in the system. Im not to sure that leds will solve the problem, because leds will need you to switch out the flasher for an LED one.
@TUBEYOUTHETUBE7 жыл бұрын
species5022 an led would instantly get destroyed with ac voltate which is also not regulated
@species50227 жыл бұрын
What i know about leds, is that they dont really mind AC. The only result is that they will only work when they get the right polarity. Meaning they will flash at 50Hz or something
@Bob_Lob_Law7 жыл бұрын
I would add a full bridge rectifier and a large filter cap to get a DC output. It would largely reduce the flickering of the lights.

You could put in a rectifier and a battery or maybe a led headlight and taillight, although the led's might still flash a little because of the ac system. i'd stay away from led blinkers because then you need a special relais or a load resistor but with the resistor you're still consuming quite a lot of power. But you're getting there great job!

“You come out...and I get happier.” Awwwwwwww! On the headlights flashing, could also be due (in part) to having a single wire split 5 ways like that. In other words, all the current for all the lights is run through one small-gauge wire, which may not be able to handle it (voltage drop increases with current, v=ir). Easy enough to calc - add up the power rating of the bulbs, divide by the nominal voltage and that equals your current. Then look up a wire sizing chart for recommended current on that size wire. Or just grab another fatter wire and clip it temporarily in parallel. If the symptoms decrease, current drop is at least part of the problem. Honestly, that was the first thing that came to mind when you said you split one wire five ways..., (Electrical nerd here, glad to help if I can. )

I wonder if a bunch of capacitors could be used to deal with the fluctuations. or whether it would just be easier to put a battery in there.
@SmokiesDen7 жыл бұрын
David Riley if he added a battery since the generation output is ac would you need to use a diode bridge to rectify it into DC? I wonder what voltage the generator outputs and how you'd keep from overcharging the battery. The caps might be easier but I'm not smart enough to understand how ac works with them since it changes polarity but I'm sure someone around these parts can enlighten me. I know bad pun I'll show myself the door.
@adamfpv82947 жыл бұрын
That’s what I was thinking, noticed the headlights got brighter when engine RPMs increased. Capacitors would smooth it out (and be easy instal) but wouldn’t fix it, batteries on the other hand would fix it, but would be much more complicated expensive and bulky. I would try capacitors (or just a big one) . I don’t know a lot about electronics so it would be nice to hear from someone who does.
