Jennifer is very underrated as a Housewife. She might be shallow but she has introduced very important topics to the show. Arranged marriages vs self-selected is a debate that is always up for discussion in countries with many different cultures. Her parents situation is common to many people. We have to be careful when judging bc this is the reality of many people in the US and in the world. I find it also interesting how she's been called out several times for being a stay-at-home mother like it is a problem. Also, can't housewives have people to help them? It is a 24/7 job so it would only make sense that they do. This is a Housewife show after all. I find that these type of debates are way more interesting and beneficial to us than discussing whether a wife's husband is cheating honestly.

The situation with Jen's parents is very true and raw. Women are "encouraged" to marry much older men with money and in many cases, they live their lives in misery. Once the children marry and they are left with each other, the pain is even deeper because the wife is now caring for an elderly man she doesn't love. I've seen this many times and it breaks my heart.

I agree. I'm so glad that her mother has the chance to speak up for herself. She might have been in such an oppressed environment while her children were growing up. This is very hard to watch. The pain Jennifer’s mum carried all her life and unhappiness it’s just awful. While I believe her husband physically did not abuse her, she was so unhappy and only stayed married because coming from her culture at the time when she married separation it’s not an option. Jeniffer needs to listen to her mum and support more. My parents came from similar culture and era, so I totally understand how she feels.

My parents marriage was an arranged one. My father was a wonderful human. My mother was a dutiful wife, dad was the head of the family, however we had the best of everything. A wonderful provider! @tiyas5378 3 жыл бұрын
@@irenetsomidis2167 it's also true that people in arranged marriages come from cultures with little to no legal recourse and/or social acceptance for divorce. In fact arranged marriages most probably have a far lower rate of divorce for this reason. The scope of ending things just isn't there. _Especially_ if you're a woman. And I say this as a person from a country where arranged marriage is still very common.

I don’t think she thought the conversation would take such a turn. People started to really share and her mom NEVER shares. I don’t think she saw it coming. Kids need to experience and witness adult marital conflict. It helps them pattern resolution with partnerships like that. And Bill also said that Jen’s mom is a little triggered watching their love match flourish. It’s hard to take when you feel like your family was stolen from you at 18. Gabby is a tad nosy. I feel very sorry for Jennifer's mom... the fact it took a psychic saying her mother deserved to be believed for Jennifer to understand her need for validation. I find that heartbreaking! Especially since Jennifer says her mother was a very good, hands-on mom to her. They seem to condescend to the mom in some way; it's like they believe the dad 100% and don't understand how hard it must have been for that woman to marrry someone against her will. Jennifer’s mother marrying at 16 marrying a 27 years old man is no different than the so called big marriage of the last century when a 19 years old Diana Spencer married a 33 years old Prince Charles. When they got officially engaged she was 18 but keep in mind Prince Philip and Diana’s father broke that arranged marriage deal when Diana was 17 and had a doctor verify if she was still a virgin (gross) So people here jumping with silly statements saying it’s a ‘Turkish thing’ or ‘This could have never happened in a western country’, Diana and Charles thing happened in the UK in the 80s and some people still glamorize that wedding.

@@duradun4756 When I said they, I meant Josephine's children and even more specifically Bill and Jennifer who have traditional roles but seem equally yoked and happy. Arranged marriages are common enough. That was not the dynamic that I'm curious about. He was an adult and within a year took her to a new country where she immediately became pregnant, a mother, a caretaker responsible for herself, a child, a husband, and a household. He removed her from her family and by her narration was not emotionally supportive. There seems to be somehthing that Jennifer does not want to acknowledge. Jennifer was real quick to say "No daddy. You didn't abuse her." Even Bill said that not acknowledging feelings is an abuse; it is a neglect. Jennifer seems to be more embarrassed than supportive of her mother. - despite the fact that her mother was her "bestfriend" all of her life until now. I hope she find the happiness she deserves after loosing so much, our parents do not know how much they affect your adult life because they do not know any better, Jennifer please do not let a day go by your mom loves you on the other hand I know for a fact mine doesnt, we do not know how much time we have left, the mother I did have was my mother in law she passed going on 3 years and it hurts more than you know because they day we put her in the ground is the day I lost my mother and I went into full panic attack, something though that she left me that we all speak no is during that panic attack I was siting right infront of her casket and their was no wind none at all it was so hot and out of no where a rose fell off her casket and onto my foot, her sister next to me who was trying to calm me down said Look what my sister did for you, she loves you and will always be with you, I dont know how but she was born in my town and they lived 2 hours away so its crazy how I met my husband but we did and I would share stories about my town and she would ask me things about it, I was a small piece from her birth place, God I miss her she filled the void of not having a mother and she didnt get along with her only daughter and (she had 5 boys) I filled that for her, God I miss her and I know if they do not make it right Jennifer will regret it her whole life. My older friend and my grandmother were both in arranged marriages (forced). It was rough at first but they all fell in love over time with their partners and have/had lasting marriages. Self-selected marriages vs arranged ones. This is the eternal debate among many different cultures in the US. This is real. I don't agree but I have to respect their opinions

i see why teresa and dolores get along with jennifer. that is oldschool, catholic/orthodox, immigrant devotion to their families, that hospitality, that generousity, that having each others back and taking each other in mindset. i really feel because melissa, jackie and marge cant relate to that, because they only care about their own nuclear family (in marges case not even that) they only see jens worst sides.

I see my grandparents in Jennifers parents. It’s really sad bc mines still live together and co exist as much as they can. it’s a bit different in the way that my grandmother still loves my grandfather but she can’t find it in herself to forgive him for the neglect and abuse he inflicted on her in the past. She’s so angry at him and lashes out at him from time to time. He’s a lot more subdued now ( he used to have a temper) so he just takes it or walks away. They’ve kind of learned to coexist and survive in this kind of relationship for so long that I don’t think either of them know what a healthy relationship really feels like tbh. And it’s not ever gonna happen bc divorce isn’t an option to super strict catholic people. I definitely feel for Jennifer and the position she’s in bc the neglectful and hot tempered version of my grandpa that my grandma knew is not the man we grew up with. since most of it was fueled by alcoholism and he’s been sober all 26 years of my life. My gramps wishes that my grandma would let go of the past but it’s simply not that easy. I’ve recently introduced my grandma to therapy which wasn’t easy bc I had to find someone that would speak her native language and understood my grandmothers culture. Also had to convince her to go lol but it’s helped her soooooooo much. I would definitely recommend Jennifer to help her mother seek something like this. Her mother needs someone that will listen to her that isn’t biased and isn’t attached to the situation. I love both my grandparents dearly bc they were both the best grandparents anyone could ever ask for. My mother is a single mother and my grandpa is more of a father to me than anything else. It’s hard to even write these things down for strangers to read so I really really commend Jennifer and her mother for sharing such a vulnerable part of themselves and their family dynamic for hundreds and thousands of people to see! They’re definitely not alone, that’s for sure.

Jennifer's mother is mad disrespectful and turning Jennifer's role on the show, into her show. If one never appreciated the arranged marriage, appreciate what you have ended up with in the end. Business around diamonds, children with lavish lives, and beautiful grandchildren. The vast majority of females in the world would take her life at 60 or 70 years old in a blink of an eye. She can't say her husband cheated, hit her, never provided, or has an ex-wife or any of that rubbish. If she was not happy with her life, take a look at all the single mothers struggling out there. One thing Turkish men do and that is work day and night to provide and it is a cultural thing. Give an old school born and bred Turkish man one single brick and he will turn it into a business. You can tell her heart is cold, because she struggled to accept her own son being gay too. You might not be fond of gay people but you should ALWAYS be fond of your own flesh and blood no matter what. She is in the fattest mansion in the world, on tv moaning FFS! Sorry I had to rant that.

I know I may be wrong but, I think this whole arranged marriage thing is not good! Arranging 2 complete strangers that know nothing about one another to be married takes all the joy out of getting to know someone Vs doing it while married and finding out later the other person is not who you would choose to marry if it were your choice. It's like taking away someones right to be happy. 48 years is a very long time to be unhappy!

Idk what this is. Read something on Twitter and went down a rabbit hole. Confused as to why a Turkish woman would have the name Jennifer... why her (ex?) Husband's name was Bill... they both have the same Turkish last name. Was he American and did he take her name? Are they both Turkish Americans with American first names for some reason? So after some googling. Bill seems to be Turkish.. while Jennifer is Turkish, Armenian, Syriac Orthodox. Not sure if she is ethnic Turk or a minority from Turkey. I wouldn't be surprised if Bill isn't ethnic Turk. They don't look Turkish. Their names make more sense if they are both Syriac or Armenians from Turkey or something. Not that it makes them less Turkish since you don't have to be an ethnic Turk to be Turkish.
