Hallo Jenny, ich schaue mir Deine Videos gerade an um quasi "rückwärts" zu lernen und damit mein Englisch zu verbessern. Es gibt einfach in beiden Sprachen so viele feststehende Ausdrücke und Wendungen mit leicht unterschiedlicher Bedeutung, die man einfach kennen muss. As a native speaker, a good translation that comes to mind for "ausnutzen" would be "to take advantage of". Which can be used both negatively toward a person, or positively toward a situation as in German.
