But the most important part of this story is, the lesson that hopefully your father, flesh and blood, has learned from this tragic 1st marriage. To know the truth about how bad and dangerous your daughter's situation is and still turned her away is a heartless act. Just imagine if you had not survive from your gun shot wounds. In my eyes, your father, who is suppose to protect you, should feel just as guilty as the shooter. I'm hopeful that this story will open up many of our elders eyes to see the best in all people. Love this kind of story. My sister in law married a Hmong man first and they had a son together but her husband was an abusive and didn’t hold a steady job. She was the bread winner in the family. The last time that she finally called cop on him was when he beat her up, used a baseball bat crushed her car window and strangled her with telephone cord. She fired for divorce and left him. She and her son lived with my husband and I for 10 years and married a white husband who is a veterinarian and they have no kid together but love each other very much. They travel once or twice a year in first class and stay in luxury hotels.

Congratulations to you for finding the one! Your family and love ones did not stop you from marrying your kej dub husband, so I don't see the point in lecturing from the beginning of your story. I would've understood if your parents disagreed with you marrying your current husband. Such changes as intermarriage don't just happen overnight.
