Supernatural was one of the last series (ANY network) that STILL produced 22-23 episodes, every season...and all were consistently good. Our "boys" need a break. They've all got growing families. They're aging, with their core audience... And all of us are on-board with whatever the guys need. We all know they've given blood, sweat, tears, privacy, sleep, and more for the show and the fans. Nope. The Flash, Arrow & Supergirl are all still doing 22-23 episode seasons. Most of the CW's (and other network tv shows) shows are like that. It's cable tv shows that are 12 episodes - Game of Thrones and Dexter, for example.

Also, on other networks we have Elementary and MacGyver also doing 22ish eps - Elementary has actually been doing 24 eps per season. It's simply that these days a lot of the cable shows (or non-US, like Doctor Who) are more well-known and they do more like 12 eps.

Yeah, honestly there are always a set of 'filler' episodes every season (even though I still enjoy them), so it'll just allow them to tighten the two story arcs they generally make each season, while allowing the actors to have more time off with their families, so they can stay energized for more seasons!

I totally support a shorter season - both Jared and Jensen have families and they're older now, so it makes sense that they'd want to slow down and enjoy the good life. Season 3 was shorter (granted, due to the writer strike) but it didn't impact the quality of the show and the plot, so if they can do it and not have to rely on filler episodes, I say bring it on! I'm hoping they have more "monster of the week" episodes (once they defeat Michael, of course!)

Honestly I wouldn't mind if we got 16 episodes a season, these guys have been incredible to us for 14 years, let them have their rest, let their children have their fathers you know? Plus less episodes usually means they can focus on one storyline and not do like 3 side storylines because they have to fill the season. I mean, look at the 100, they do 13 and are doing amazing so :) i hope they don't feel bad about cutting it shorter, as long as they're happy I'm happy 😊

Absolutely. Put in a couple of eps where Sam and Dean just aren't in the ep, and then that'll sort out giving J2 some rest while still giving the network enough episodes. (Though I think the problem is that their hiatus is too short - perhaps they need the longer rest at the end rather than having a week or so off in the middle?)

I want Sam and Cas especially to work hard to save him, and to provide the catalyst for his rescue, but I want to see Dean finally see that he's worth saving, and then save himself. Especially since this season marks 10 years with Cas, who's the one who so memorably called Dean out with, "You don't think you deserve to be saved?" Maybe this year, Dean will finally see that he does deserve it, and it could be a nice callback, too. Like, "You were right. You told me ten years ago, and you were right."

I honestly can't believe it took 13 seasons for Dean to get possessed by something! And I'm actually happy about the 20 episode season because Jared and Jensen deserve that extra time off and I think a shorter season might add some energy/momentum to the show. Also excited to see Sam in a leadership role because Dean's been the defacto leader since the beginning and has only stepped more and more into that role as the series has progressed. Lastly, I'm excited that it sounds like Michael!Dean will be around for a while! I know I'm going to miss Dean like crazy, but I'm also excited for Michael!Dean (plus, I know we'll get Dean back!)

I Am Steve Rogers Actually, no, Dean was not possessed. Dean died in the S9 finale and the MoC brought him back to life as demon. Dean wasn't being possessed by anything. He literally was a demon. That's why Sam had to cure him. If Dean was being possessed Sam would've just exorcised the demon. Plus, it was stated in the show and by the cast that Dean was actually a demon himself and not possessed.

I'm so glad there's no ending in sight! lol Also, because Cas was Luficer for like half a season and Sam was Gadreel for like half a season, I think maybe Dean will be Michael for half the season...which is interesting because for Lucifer and Gadreel, they pretended to be Cas or would let Sam be in control and kind of switched on and off (until Gadreel took over full time). So we still got to see the boys together; with this, they all know that Michael is in Dean, so we won't see the boys together for very much, if at all besides to fight maybe, if Michael is around for half the season. So I'm glad Jensen is getting to play another character and will be around for a while, but we won't have the Sam/Dean brother moments for like half or most of the season...or however long it lasts....

It's crazy how this show turned out and changed the perception of life altogether. I mean, Eric Kripke took an idea and ran with it. Hired two of the, what turned out to be the perfect matches for the lead roles and it instantly blew up beyond its own control. The fan base is ridiculously huge! What Jared and Jensen brought to the table, along with their acting skills, literally changed the freakin world! Now, it's going into 14 years deep and although these writers, actors, directors, etc... are kind of losing their momentum, the fans are screaming for more... Jared and Jensen attempted to create a cozy corner for those suffering with anxiety and depression and in return, they used Supernatural as a focal point when times got rough.... and it too blew up beyond their own control. Now, with the inevitable end is just around the corner, J2, cast and crew all know that they will be creating a world of destruction when ever the end is announced. They helped people living with depression and how to cope with it... But, when they finally announce the end of the show, they will be resparking that smoldering depression flame. They literally painted themselves into a corner that they unknowingly or unintentionally created! I want to laugh at them.. But it's more concerning of just how all of this is going to unfold in the end. Will Jared and Jensen go from being the most loved and adored celebrities to the most disappointing? Will the percentage of depression and anxiety increase after Supernatural comes to an end? Does J2 now feel obligated to continue on with the show? Will Eric Kripke have to leave the country just to escape certain death? I can see the Most Wanted Posters now with Kripke's face on them around the world.

Frankly, if the show is eventually cancelled because J2 just can't anymore / need to be with their family, and fans are angry at them, then those people never really were fans in the first place. Like, I absolutely love the show and would be very distraught if S14 is the last one, but I would never be angry at J2 for it, even if it is specifically because they didn't want to keep going.

Unless the ratings suddenly plummet, the network won't cancel the show, which means it's likely going to come down to J2 calling it quits (apparently Jared and Jensen have a talk together every year to decide if they want to go on or not). They obviously feel a certain pressure to keep going because of the fanbase, but also likely because they themselves have invested 13 (going on 14) years to this show, and I imagine it would be hard to just call it quits after so long. So I think they get pressure from the fanbase and from themselves. That being said, Supernatural has to end at some point, and I feel like that end is coming into sight. Realistically, the absolute max number of seasons that SPN is likely to reach is 20. Although I have a strong feeling that season 15 might be the last (should it get renewed for it). Then again, maybe shortening it to 20 episodes per season will being back some momentum. Still, when J2 decide to call it quits, I hope they aren't hated for it, and any real fan will understand their choice. As much as we like to joke about it, SPN won't last forever and as sad as I'll be to see it end, I'll understand why, and I certainly won't love the cast any less for it. Also, I don't see how/why Eric Kripke would get hate when the show ends given that he left at the end of S5.

That's what I was thinking - knowing the show's fanbase, it's highly unlikely that the ratings will plummet at all - like, the network put the show in the Friday night death slot early on in its run to try to get it cancelled and the ratings didn't even move. From how I understood it, it was really only certain years that they felt the need to talk about it - the rest of the time it was pretty obvious that they both wanted to continue.

It would be awesome to see one day an old jared and jensen aged like good wine still playing their part saving the world one last time. Then in the final scene both siting on a porch while the sun sets down with a bottle of bear in their hands watching their grand kids playing in the garden in front of them. You'll see relieve on their faces. Then Sam says "We finally made it" - and Dean looks at Sammy smiles and then turns his sight again towards the garden full of their family and some of their dearest friends still alive and he says "We did Sammy, yeah we did" - man this would be in my eyes the perfect ending (far far in the future) for this show. Would love to see it.

I suffer severe anxiety and agoraphobia too and I can’t imagine feeling like that and having to be in front of all those people. But they haven’t said he’s not coming so maybe he flies in today.

I still think that Season 15 will be the last one. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it to end, but there has been too much of a talk about episode 300 and the finale of the whole thing. Couple of seasons ago there wasn't anything like it and now they suddenly keep talking about it. If 20 episode season is the answer to Supernatural lasting until season 20, then by all means... take that extra month, no fan will complain about it. By the way... I'm disappointed that Wayward Sisters didn't get a chance to become a spin-off. I'd watch it.
