Tip to help you out. Pry up on tongue side of the hardwood instead of the groove side. The tongue is where the hardwood is nailed into. By doing this you will create more leverage on the nails and it will be easier to pry up.

I want to preserve my installed wood floors. How to pull up wood floors and preserve the wood? Is it possible?
@rickyjah77457 ай бұрын
You want to cut the opposite way, get a row out, then slowly pull it up. It's very time consuming to preserve it completely.

Great video, I like seeing it in action. Labeling the trim to reuse it later is ingenious. To reuse the planking, would you cut along the plank rather than perpendicular?

So how did you pull up the boards at the walls? Did you have to cut them flush with the walls or were they laid up to the walls so came up easily?
@JenWoodhouse14 жыл бұрын
Since we removed the baseboards first, the floorboards came up easily at the walls. There's usually a slight gap at the walls to allow for floorboard expansion.

@thegooddoctor847910 ай бұрын
Prying from the tongue side is very important. You figure out which direction and face that same direction all day. I would get started with the hammer and prybar, then switch to using a spade shovel - after you've created a little room. You can work standing up at that point. Slam it under a board, avoiding the nails, and lift up with the leverage that you get from the added length from the shovel. Place the wood in an empty trash can and carry outside. I liked the numbering of the base molding as well. Good luck Ya'll, Hope you never have to do it again.

This might work if your hardwoods are not glued down. After doing demo on 1600 sq ft in my house (which was glued to concrete) this is total BS. Go to the rental place and get yourself the ride on floor scraper. dont mess around and you'll be done in 1/10th of th time.

The only part of this video I found confusing was reusing the baseboards. You’re willing to throw out thousands of dollars in hardwood, but not spend $0.35/foot on new baseboards? Saving the baseboards means scraping off all the old caulking, removing all the bent finish nails/staples AND not cracking them while removing them. Complete waste of time in my opinion.

no easy way for me. you're removing an almost pristine floor, likely not very old. i have a 100 year old floor in a 1940's building. the flooring is only in one out of 3 rooms. its oak flooring and most of it is individually warped, damaged in a few areas, and rotted in a corner. the rot goes into the subfloor, which i have removed. the beams look good with no damage. i patched the subfloor but need to remove the oak. unfortunately, the nails are from the 1940s and are all rusted, which means the pry bar and hammer are a bad idea. being on the knees and breaking my back for days on end is not gonna happen. i'll likely get a Crescent bull bar. once i remove the oak flooring, i think i'll just add a 2nd layer of chipboard subflooring to secure it from the squeaking. it squeaks a lot. then i'll add a brand new layer of hardwood, likely oak.
@jaycole37682 жыл бұрын
The way to long. Try starting at a doorway then 1-2 rows at a time and with a big demo pry bar.

Kinda sad. The old hardwood floor was much nicer than the new fake laminate. I will never understand why anyone wants to remove something so beautiful and replace it with Home Depot vanilla laminate nothing. The French oak plank looks like it has no depth to the grain and absolutely no warmth. I have put in floors with character that these folks have never seen in their lives. What a shame.
