@@petejames1326 I would say the perception you have there is totally off the mark. As with anywhere, you will always have the odd criminal or miss behaving person, black or white. There are not that many Aboriginal people living there, Port Augusta is where a lot of them live. Being a small city, criminal behaviour naturally soon enough gets dealt with by authorities because people know people. As for services they are pretty good, there is no shortage of tradespeople, at least not that I am aware of, the only issue really is lack of jobs, but I dare say that has improved a bit over the years. Port Pirie is certainly a lot more peaceful and safe to live in than a lot of other places small or large.

Interesting about the houses that had to be pulled down because of the lead contamination. I look on real estate.com at properties for sale in Port Pirie there are 12 pages of properties for sale in Port Pirie which is a fair amount. Houses in Port Pirie are inexpensive to buy but offer good rental returns. After watching this and learning about those houses that had to be pulled down, I'm wondering if a possible threat of more houses needing to be demolished could have something to do with the amount of houses for sale at such low prices there. Real estate agents would not be the best people to ask because of their vested interest in people buying houses there. But it would be interesting to know.

I lived a few streets south of the demolished houses and there were many a day where I would get up and almost have an asthma attack (even though I didn't have diagnosed asthma) over the fumes surrounding the smelters. However I stand firm on my belief that the smelter belongs in Port Pirie, sure the environment and peoples health is very important, but the smelter is also the heart beat of the city and if it were to be closed down out of irrational pollution concerns you can bet a smelter would just open up somewhere else in the world to pick up the loss of lead production. Lead is very critical to our lives, it is used in far more products than many would realise and if the smelter were to be closed down, it would needlessly spell the end of Port Pirie's future and the lives of so many people. Thanks for thel feedback.
