Jeremiah might have claimed Jerome was born bad but IMO both of them were. I reckon Jerome was evil before the abuse by his mother and uncle and before Jeremiah's lies that Jerome tried to kill him. He was an evil man who just happened to be abused not a man who became evil because he was abused. His mother and her boyfriends beating Jerome up and his uncle putting his hand in boiling soup didn't make him kill. He chose to kill because abuse doesn't make you kill innocent people who had nothing to do with the abuse because realistically the only people abuse victims would want to kill would be their abusers so if abuse had truly made Jerome what he was his mother Lila and his uncle Zach would have been his only victims. The fact that he kept killing after killing them shows that Jerome was evil because he was born that way and chose to be that way not because of abuse. He killed because he liked killing and found it funny.

No he didn't. Jeremiah knew that Jerome could see right through him and that Jerome knew that Jeremiah was even more of a monster than he was and he was frightened that Jerome would expose Jeremiah's true nature to their mother Lila. Jeremiah realised he had to get away from Jerome so he made up lies like saying Jerome set his bed alight with him in it and tried to cut his throat with a knife so that his mother would get him away from Jerome which she did with the help of the twins's uncle Zach who took Jeremiah away from the circus and had him adopted by a rich family. Jerome alone knew that Jeremiah's "nice guy" thing was just an act he used to manipulate people. Before Gordon and Bullock came along and found Jerome locked in Jeremiah's bunker Jeremiah was probably going to torture and kill Jerome to keep his true self secret. That was why Jerome had Jeremiah sprayed with the gas. To show all of Gotham what he'd known all along. That Jeremiah was just as twisted as he was.

Yeah and he probably thought he deserved it especially after the abuse he basically let Jerome go through. Like here he is Jerome’s brother and he was supposed to be one of the first to see the signs of abuse. (Mutilation of animals and taking out anger on others is a behavioral sign of early childhood abuse,).

I think Jerome said the gas was suppose to reveal the real Jeremiah, Jeremiah probably said it didn't affect because he believed Jerome made the gas and he would hate the idea of Jerome being capable of anything on his level, remember how he talked about him before and after the gas trap. But the thing is scarecrow made the gas and it seems like he knows his stuff with checmicals

The fact that he's calculating but cold and uncaring about what he does makes him creepier IMO. Where most versions of Joker would laugh their asses off and enjoy every minute of what they do Jeremiah does horrible things without giving a shit and doesn't even seem to enjoy it like he's just going through the motions and doing what he has to do. Like when he burned Jerome's cult alive all he felt was disappointment.
