So many insights into his childhood, his family, his horrid time at Eton, his Rheumatic fever, his personal relationships, and of course, his battle with bipolar disorder. It’s amazing he accomplished so much in his 61 years. An amazing actor, family man, and humble person at that. He was a generous, thoughtful, kind soul. Simply amazing that we were lucky enough share an Earthly portion with him, on the ribbon of time.🌹

I couldn't agree more. I had a similar experience. Having seen Basil Rathbone's Holmes originally, I fought the thought that Jeremy's was truer to Canon, but the fight was ridiculously short-lived! They both have that voice, but Basil's was uncomfortably conceited. All the stupid trappings of 1940s Hollywood didn't help either! Jeremy's Holmes transported me back to the original wonder I felt when I read those stories at the age of 13. Long live the King of Holmes! ❤

Always a pleasure to hear his voice. One truly great joy for me was reading June Thomson's Sherlock Holmes stories, which are lifted from the Conan Doyle stories and allude to cases that Holmes and Watson were involved with. I hear Jeremy Brett when I read them and it really brings the stories to life - almost like discovering there were more episodes made by Jeremy Brett that were never broadcast. THE greatest Sherlock Holmes, no question.
@nelsonx53263 жыл бұрын
Maybe he was a natural to play Sherlock and nobody knew till he did. Jeremy had to create the funny mannerisms of the Holmes he played, those amazing hand flourishes, the touches that make his Holmes come to life ad such a quirky individual. Robert Downey Jr. played a great Holmes. Love Jeremy. He's under my skin. I adore him.

I think JB being bi sexual gave him the edge in his interpretation of Sherlock! He played him with style and grace which I have found lacks in others who have interpreted Sherlock. His movements were beautiful and eloquent. His way of expressing Sherlock like he did l feel would probably put a smile on Conan Doyle’s face. He was the only Sherlock.

This interview gives an insight into why Jeremy is the definitive Holmes - even putting aside the insights gleaned from his own familiarity with bipolar disorder (which clearly affected the Holmes authored by Doyle), he still stands out with a unique visual communication of energy oscillating wildly between fleeting unbridled joy and a general disconsolate apathy, rapid and perfect enunciation to demonstrate terrifying speed and precision of mind, and at turns a flash of tinny vicious teeth and a bark of a laugh. Holmes is a super-human character, and Jeremy was the first and most accurate representation with those deliberately exaggerated human qualities. I first watched him as child in the 80s and have revisited his performances many times. The recording technology and the effects that were available to Granada are now dated, but the acting is timeless and without peer.
