I watch Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke's Holmes and Watson on a regular basis. I was terribly saddened when Jeremy passed at only 61 in 1995, a huge loss, my heart was broken and still is. Very few people that I don't personally know affect me emotionally when they pass but Jeremy Brett was one of those people, I was emotionally and physically affected when I read of his passing. The world is a darker, and colder place without Jeremy Brett. Rest well Jeremy, you missed and loved by millions and I know God has you in his care now.

I can not agree more with what you say. We are all humans with flaws and virtues, Jeremy was a great person, great actor and sadly little known when he was a great professional who gave it everything.

He wasn't little known. He was a successful theatre actor who starred in television plays and dramas in the 60's, 70's and 80's before Sherlock.

A tribute to this great actor and unique man is a touching idea; but then you mute out Jeremy's dialogue; his being one of the best modulated, succinctly pronounced, most cultured voices ever to grace the stage or the screen... with a song! They lyrics might have been fitting but I couldn't bare to watch it past a couple of minutes. Jeremy Brett was a tribute to himself; his immense talent for the spoken word and his almost unique ability to act with every muscle, sinew, limb of his body is an acting superlative rarely seen, the only other actor that comes to mind was a young Larry Olivier. Next time please give us 04:15, or two hours, of him speaking, now that would be a magnificent tribute. Cheers, BH

@amtRemember G'day AMT, I can't thank you enough for your magnificent collection of Jeremy's work! I had no idea he had so many credits or worked with just about everyone who was anyone in British acting plus a good spattering of international stars. And what a wide range of roles! In less than 30 minutes of my first viewing of Jeremy as Sherlock, I discovered his absolutely riveting characterisation was the best Holmes performance I'd ever seen. That's a huge statement, given that as a film/TV critic, plus a S.H. fan, I'd seen just about every English speaking version of Doyle's 'eternal character'. I am seriously indebted to you for this wonderful gift. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please let me know. One of my great regrets was that even though I'd been in the UK many times for my work, I'd never had the opportunity to interview Jeremy. I corresponded with him and his agent but the timing for an interview never worked out. When Jeremy tragically passed, way ahead of his time, I truly felt I'd lost an old friend. Once again, my sincerest thanks. All the very best, Bill H.

Dear Bill. I fully share yours thoughts about Jeremy's talent and acting abilities and I love your "Jeremy was a tribute to himself" : quite impossible to speak of him in a better way ! To complete what you say, if it was necessary, I would quote a theater critic who wrote "his voice caresses the words" and a comment I once fel upon on YT that said : "He was an encyclopedia of expressions". I really found this marvelous ! As far as I'm concerned, I dared write that, if he had played barefoot (on screen), he surely would have been able to make his toes as expressive as his face or his hands* (a topic* in its own right in a YT podcast devoted to Jeremy as Sherlock). PS : I also agree with what Anne wrote to you ! So that I can't but support her request, 😉....

What I tremendously like regarding my recent re-discovery of Jeremy Brett, is that my curiosity has been really awaken. Through everything I can watch on YT with him starring, everything I learn about him, everything I discuss with other fans* (😞 : this term*, applied to Jeremy whose work and personality deserve something better than ordinary groupies !) such as Anne's subscribers or the ones of the channel "Lady Ksenia Florence", I've been enabled to enlarge my school knowledge of anglophone literary culture (I'm French, 😌😒). On a wider perspective, it provides me with very enriching exchanges about cinema (or french culture for I can't prevent from bringing "my french touch" 🥴 when I write a comment below a JB vid ... if there is a well-founded reason for that !). Surprisingly enough, all this leads me back sometimes to french writers whom I don't know well. Isn't it marvelous to note that one man, dead for one ¼ of a century, is at the origin of such a phenomenon and to observe the beautiful things that happen between those who gather in order to honour his memory and to make him more known (read the comments under Anne's or Ksenia's vids) : it is as if he still could have his new admirers benefit not only from a knowledge related to English literature but also, amazingly, from all the precious and fine human qualities he was gifted with 🎇 !

PS : forgive these very personal view : I'm not good at all at applying Anne's motto "less is more"... Maybe Jeremy's talent and personality should be criticized in a more objective way...that you master as a professional. I just wanted to give you one example of what a JB admirer can find in him when one isn't focus on his handsomeness and when one doesn't evaluate his acting on the only basis of his embodiment of Sherlock Holmes...

You shouldn't superficially judge an actor's talent solely based on your tastes. Check out his other roles. Jeremy Brett was a unique and inimitable actor. I don't know a single actor who is still remembered and loved by fans 28 years after his death. It is undignified to judge a person for his sexual orientation. I would not wish anyone to go through the trials and pain that Jeremy Brett went through at the end of his life. There is no need to compare him with anyone! Your comparisons only show the poverty of your judgment. JB is know all over the world, he is still loved and remembered by millions of fans.

I have already read comments less fervent than the others on the performances of Jeremy Brett in his various films, but this is the very first time that I read something so peremptory in terms of negative criticism about his interpretations ! Encompassing, moreover, under ONE only qualifier EVERYTHING he has done (have you REALLY seen everything ? Including his theatrical performances ?!) I'm afraid I have trouble with the qualifier "effeminate"... What does the negative connotation that you seem to attach to it translate : disdain, contempt, unacknowledged jealousy... or unfounded hatred ? Do you think you can justify such a categorical rejection with solidly reasoned, intellectually and humanly acceptable reasoning ? I'm well aware that 3 years have passed by, since this strange assertion of yours ; yet, one day before the anniversary of his passing, I would be glad to know what you can say to clarify your thought. Salut et Fraternité !

@@charlottevairet3453 My view is pure - Jeremy appears to be more inclined to be effeminate, rather than traditional 'manly' in both his roles and in his interviews. 'Campus Maximus' with a mouth extending pout at every opportunity. Perhaps Nigel Patrick was his mentor?

@@austenj4539Dear "Jane Austen fan" I asked if thought you could justify your categorical rejection of Jeremy Brett (and of many others, I guess) with solidly reasoned, intellectually and humanly acceptable answer ? What a substantial one ! It exactly fulfills all my expectations. Thank you so much for not having left me waiting for it too long !" By the way, you mentioned 'Campus Maximus'. Isn't it rather 'CIRCus Maximus' (Travis Scott & Kanye West) that I should understand ? If so, you indicate clearly enough to what specimen of manhood you identify with. I really find it difficult to resist the urge to introduce you the polish operatic singer AND breakdancer Jakub Józef Orliński, 😏..." No doubt that you would give him the same warm welcome and the same well-informed appreciation you show about Jeremy Brett ! As to a more detailed answer, I can see that this thankless task has been spared to me since it has already been carried out with all the proper arguments and in the right tone by someone who has a good head on the her shoulders and the heart in the right place ! One question to conclude : by what stroke of luck do you know Nigel Patrick ? Salut et Fraternité PS 1 : I hope this is not too long a reading for you ! PS 2 : If I could, I would do everything possible to find you a place of choice in the Pantheon of human stupidity

@@austenj4539 Dear Jane, Allow me to suggest you a meditation on the following quotes by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who you can't deny was "Ein Mann, ein richtiger Mann" (I'm sure you have in mind Lucchino Visconti's movie "The Damned", 1969), with Helmut Berger) "He, who is different from me does not impoverish me - he enriches me. Our unity is constituted in something higher than ourselves - in Man... For no man seeks to hear his own echo, or to find his reflection in the glass" (Pilote de guerre - Flight to Arras-, 1942 ) "Why do you hate us ? We stand, carried away by the same planet, the crew of a ship." (Terre des hommes - Wind, Sand and Stars, 1938) "The best man's job is to unite men." (Source unknown) AND "A man who is not tender is not a man". (Citadelle - The Wisdom of the Sands, 1948) Bonne lecture, 💪😊 !
